I just got myself a new 2021 model Apple TV, and am having an issue with what is displayed on the top shelf. It correctly displays 3 episodes to continue watching, but it also displays my recent playlists (that I haven’t played in a long time…). From what I’ve read, the top shelf should display recently added information in addition to continue watching, but it doesn’t do this.
When I unpin the playlists from the sidebar within the app, the recent playlists disappear from the top shelf and I’m left with just the 3 continue watching episodes.
I also have a managed user on this device, and that is showing similar behaviour. However, because this user has the free Plex movies and tv shows pinned to the sidebar, when they unpin the playlists from the sidebar, it’s actually showing recently added for Plex movies and tv shows and some other free movies and tv entries, but NOT recently added for my own server.
In my Top Shelf I see “Continue Watching”, “Recently Released (Library 1)”, and “Recently Released (Library 2)”.
I wonder if the changes to “Recently Added” have affected this. It’s now possible to merge the “Recently Added” libraries together on the Home screen.
Ahhh, yes. I think that does make a difference. I disabled Settings → Manage → Libraries → Merge Recently Added items, and now Recently Added … items are appearing in the Top Shelf.
Interestingly, when I switch that setting to ‘do not group’, it shows recently added on the top shelf but only for a few libraries and not my main tv and movie libraries.
Just upgraded to the latest plex pass version of the server but no difference.
I think mine updated after I force-quit Plex and re-launched it. The Top Shelf is displaying the first couple of Libraries in the order I have them pinned.
I’m not sure what determines how many items are displayed.
So mine are now showing in the right order when I don’t group recently added, but as soon as I do, I’m back to only seeing continue watching. Definitely progress
The plot thickens… I spun up a new server for music, and that showed up as recently added as initially it was pinned to the sidebar. Unpinned and it was gone. Still not showing my recently added from my main server though.
I came searching for this exact problem and can confirm it started occurring when I enabled “Merge Recently Added Items”. I just disabled it and voila my Top Shelf is back to normal.
