Top Shelf not working on Apple TV

Server Version#: 1.19.4.2902
Player Version#: 7.1 (15756)

I have multiple Apple TV 4Ks, and after recently updating the player to 7.1, I noticed that Top Shelf is not working anymore. I’ve disabled and re-enabled the option, and even restarted the Apple TV, Is this happening for anyone else?

Works for me (Plex for tvOS 7.1 on an Apple TV 4K).

Maybe try uninstalling the app and reinstall.
Regardless of device it often fixes issues.

Same issue here, not working, same version.

For the record, uninstalling and re-installing the app worked. I had to uninstall, reinstall, Link to Plex account, configure settings, leave and re-run the app to force it to auto login, and move the app to the right spot in my home screen…twice, since I have 2 x Apple TV 4Ks.

Hopefully I won’t have to do that again, but Top Shelf is working now.

@fcapizzo

Thanks Mate!

Full uninstall/reinstall worked for me as well.
Nasty little bug which had been driving me crazy for last week or so …

Same problem here… after doing it a couple of times(uninstall/install, etc) for different reasons, I gave up on it… :unamused: … hopefully it will fixed soon…they really should update it to the “new” modern look “a la” AppleTV+ app, with a full screen images, that would be cool… :sunglasses:

I’d just like them to fix it so it works reliably for the way it is supposed to be now … after that they can get all fancy

Top Shelf disappeared again after another update of the Plex app. I am not going to go through the same pain as before just to get Top Shelf back. Perhaps the devs can see this as a bug to be fixed someday.

Bugger!
Guess that is my future as well then …

Not really an acceptable solution as you have to reconfigure everything each time. It does fix things, BUT, I’ve already had to do it twice in the last month and now it’s playing up again. I don’t want to do this constantly. I’d like it fixed properly.

On my Apple TVs (4) Top Shelf is only working for Plex content, not for my libraries. If I remove all Plex content from my home screen, I get no top shelf content, just a Plex logo.

Same issue here. Every time it fails, I have to reinstall and reconfigure Plex, only to have it stop working a few hours later.

Please fix this ASAP.

The reload stopped working for me, as did top shelf. I decided tonight to try deleting the app again, rebooting the AppleTV, then re-installing the latest version.

Installed it, changed all the settings to how I want them again. Quit out of the app, and top shelf worked. Watched a few shows, went back to the home screen of the AppleTV and top shelf was just the Plex logo again. Quit out of the app, still just Plex logo. Open up app, still just Plex logo.

So for me it works the first time you put the right settings in place for it, but breaks not long after. Even on a clean install.

It shows for me, but doesn’t update? Still has a show and movie to continue watching that have been finished.

Top Shelf is definitely broken. Perhaps someone like @sergiou87 could get some Plex developers to take a look?

What makes this odd that it seems to work for different users with the same setup while it’s not working for others. Feels like there’s some goofy setting interfering…
So far I have not been able to reproduce this “broken” top shelf" on my end.

Somebody willing to compare their settings of the tvOS Plex client?

I will once I verify it still isn’t working when I get home tonight. I will say that I have auto-login disabled, but do not have account PINs set.

@tom80H the other night when I re-installed from scratch I re-ordered the sidebar to be Home -> TV Shows -> Movies -> Music -> Playlists -> Photos -> Misc Videos -> Live TV & DVR.

I re-ordered the home screen to be Continue Playing -> On Deck -> New TV Shows -> New Movies -> Live TV Now Showing.

I went in to settings and set up

Most of these settings were default.

The first time I exited out of the app (swiping up to exit completely), Top Shelf appeared. I then re-opened the app, did a few things, went back to the home screen and there was no sign of Top Shelf. Hasn’t been since.

@BastardSheep, thanks for the template.
