[BUG] PLEX for Apple TV/TOP SHELF NOT Working Right!

I have noticed that the last video (or whatever I’m playing) that I happen to stop playing, is NOT updating on the TOP SHELF for the Apple TV, when you highlight the APP on your device. It continues to show videos, etc that you have already watched, that you we’re not watching when you stopped. This is in regards to “Continue Watching…” When I test this out with the desktop client, it works the way it’s supposed to.

Anyways else having this issue?

Maybe @darcilicious has seen this? I don’t have my ATV4K up and running at the moment.

Was this working previously? If not, then on some Plex apps there’s an Enhanced Player option. Try to enable that if it exists while we wait for someone else to drop bye.

Unfortunately I’m not near a device for another day or two; but I don’t think I’ve seen that particular issue…

In the meantime, @Dayvidpriddy, could you post the PMS version you have installed and the version of the Plex app installed on the Apple TV?

It worked, but not reliably. Now it’s basically not working at all or takes hours to update on the top shelf.

Darcillicious…

PMS: 1.18.4.2171
Plex App (Apple TV): 2.12 (14020)

Nibbles,

Currently I have “use enhanced video player” off because it’s experimental. I’ll try it and see if it changes anything.

Same versions here, top shelf is completely gone for me (just showing plex logo) since a few days. Can’t seem to get it back.

Is this happening to all users, just managed users, or just admin users?

So this happened to me while I went to go see if I could duplicate; I hadn’t used my Apple TV in more than a week. I went to my Apple TV (always on) and started browsing the Plex Top Shelf. It was fine briefly and then disappeared leaving just the Plex logo.

I went down to another top shelf app and it wasn’t showing anything other than the app logo too.

I then went into Plex, let the Home Screen update and then went back out and the Top Shelf for Plex was there as expected.

Since no one has mentioned specifically what they’ve done to try and fix (always helpful to include in your post!), here are some ideas to try and get Top Shelf back – after trying each of these, leave the app and check for Plex’s Top Shelf:

  • Kill Plex and restart
  • Log out of Plex and log back in
  • Restart the Apple TV
  • Delete the Plex app and reinstall

I’m the only user on my Apple TV (live alone) so I’m not familiar with multiple users.

I have force closed the app (same problem), I have rebooted the Apple TV (same problem), I haven’t deleted and reinstalled the app (I’ll try that sometime soon).

All the other apps I have my top shelf work, with no issues. I should also note that the app for iPhone/iPad and Plex Media Server on my PC don’t have this issue, it’s only happening with the app for Apple TV (at least on my end).

P.S. My Top Shelf finally updated out of the blue tonight, I would take a screenie but I don’t think it would be permitted here! :joy:

Hey that’s good news. So this is “fixed” now?

No def not fixed, it shouldn’t take hours to update, it should be immediately!

Ah okay. As soon as you notice a pattern to the updates will you make a post? It sounds like it’s gone from not updating at all to once a day.

Of course!

Have you tried this yet:

I suppose the other slim possibility is that the Plex database has become corrupted so the server can’t push out the right views to your Apple TV…

I doubt this is the case, the problem doesn’t happen with any of my other Plex apps except for the Apple TV. Another person replied on here that same thing is happening with him as well. I didn’t have this issue with the old version of Plex for Apple TV.

I did say slim, after all.

Have you tried deleting and reinstalling the app yet?

Not yet, I will get around to it this week. I just hate having to setup the App all over again and customize all over again.:frowning:

My problem was that I forced https connections on the server. Top shelf seems to get the data via http. This should be improved in future versions.

@Dayvidpriddy
The app doesn’t have that much configuration options on the Apple TV, deleting and reinstalling is a matter of minutes.

I left my PMS Settings > Network like this on the default, Secure Connections are Preferred:

@Black09 Is that the setting you had “forced to https” or was it some other setting?

Tonight, I literally had to log out of my Plex account on my Apple TV, then log back into it to get the top shelf to update correctly (and that was after a reboot after logging out of the App, reboot, then logged back in), then it displayed properly. There is definitely a bug somewhere, whether it’s within PMS or the app, I’m not sure which but it’s getting frustrating. I didn’t have this issue with previous versions of (whatever).
