21:9 support in Plex HTPC

Personal opinions aside, let’s keep it to technical.

--keepaspect makes much more sense, seems obvious, but certainly a muppet moment on my end! Thanks for the clarification!

I’ve also tried --no-keepaspect as per mpv.io but this also does not work. Are you able to test to see if this option is being reflected correctly, or if it’s a local issue on my end?

E.g.:

--no-keepaspect
--monitoraspect=21:9

Edit:
Having had a further look, it looks like keepaspect is ignored in full screen modes, which would explain why I’m not seeing any discernible differences over an unmodified config.

–no-keepaspect, --keepaspect

–no-keepaspect will always stretch the video to window size, and will disable the window manager hints that force the window aspect ratio. (Ignored in fullscreen mode.)
mpv.io

If it was ignored in fullscreen, it wouldn’t be working for --keepaspect either.

Good call. We didn’t consider PMP had a global setting for this. Will do.

Any word on the ability to remove the gradient tint in the OSD? The 16:9 UI wouldn’t bother me so much if the playback controls were a bit more subtle like the Android TV ones are.

The gradient is drawn by the UI without overlaying an image. I’m making some headway advocating for a more subtle appearance to make its way into HTPC too.

Thanks for looking into it, if you just transplanted the android OSD which I believe is a black / transparent overlay, it would be much better imo.

Coming soon to an HTPC preview near you courtesy of @gbooker02 and @Moussa:

This is as close as we can get to Android’s look/feel for now. A shorter gradient may be possible later on.

A global zoom setting is also nearing completion.

(Edit: available in 1.1.0 preview update.)

Nice, thanks for this. No gradient at all would be better imo.
