I would love to see 3D support added for both plex server and the home theaters.
Since 1 week i am a plex User - and i really Love it!
How are the Plans about 3D ? I use plex on a Windows Based pc, and the Hardware can Playback 1080p MVC 3D .
Is there a plan Support it? In the Moment i use steroscopic Player for 3D …
What are the Plans? How the Other handle 3D ?
+1.

Doesn't it already 'support' in? I have many 3d MKVs which are in SBS format, that Plex transcodes without an issue. I even do it over airplay to ATV3.Â
3D works for me on a Samsung tv, just needed to rename the files.
3D works for me on a Roku XS and Mitsubishi 3D DLP HDTV flawlessly.
+ 1
the videos play flawlessly
the seek-bar (progress-bar) overlay when the video is paused or while skipping is torn up.
it would be great if the interface for the plex client would be in 3d as well (HOU and SBS).
By the way: i love Plex thats why i became a plexpass member :)
I would appreciate support for FullHD 3D FramePacket HDMI 1.4a
I'm not content with the quality of SBS Horizontal/Vertical or Half-SBS Horizontal/Vertical.
I have the following setup:
- Netgear ReadyNas 6 plus (Intel atom version) running the Plex server app
- AsRock Vision 3D 146B with HDMI 1.4a FullHD 3D support, running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
- Denon AVR2118 Reciever with HDMI 1.4a support for fullHD 3D and 3K signals
- Sony KDL 55HX850, 55 inch FullHD 3D television
I can play fullHD 3D movies either by AsRocks built in BluRay player, or by a ripped MKV file (Ripped with DVDFab, FullHD 3D 2 streams in one file, audiocopy) without any problems using the latest full version of PowerDVD (not using the bundled light version). My television set correctly detects a FullHD 3D packet stream movie and my receiver detects and plays back DolbyDigital TrueHD and DTS HD-Master 7.1 audio.
But, It would be great if I could do this without having to first switch off Plex, open the network file browser and play the file via PowerDVD
Quick question since we're here:
Are you peoples able to name files so that you can keep a 3D and non-3D version in the same section, and then choose between the two when you press play?

I did this with my collection. Initially plex will link the files as it seems to ignore the 3D end ie film and film 3D. It just links them and shows them as 1 film, if you select the film and choose the split apart option it'll separate the movies. Plex will now show the same movie twice but if you select one and choose media info to determine which one is 3D and edit the title you can have 3D movies showing separately. Bit of a task initially. Other option is to have all 3D movies in a separate folder on your hard drive and create a 3D section, which is what I'm about to do instead :)
It certainly does not work for me, at least for my H-SBS thus far.
I have HT set the refresh rate to always, and it is full screen, the menus for HT show up in 3d just fine, and pretty, however, when video plays it is just two images side by side on the screen. Tried it with three movies, all which play fine in Powerdvd. Plex even shows it is 24p video, just no workies. Any ideas then? (latest HT and server)
Are you not able to turn 3D on on your TV? Mine will always show the pics either side by side or above one another and I just have to activate the 3D on my TV remote and its fine.
I am using the HT client on my pc. All the menus come in 3D in the HT client itself rather nicely, but when it is time to show the video (which HT shows 24p) it is just side-by-side. Same video works fine in powerdvd on same screen with same refresh rate selected, so I assume it is either HT/server not working correctly, or a setting that needs to be toggled. Either way it is VERY non-intuitive. Perhaps a 3D button on the tracker bar to switch between the two? This seems to work quite well in powerdvd.
Would also love proper 3d support for MVC or Full-SBS. I’m glad MVC files can currently be played in 2d for devices that aren’t 3d, but proper HDMI 1.4 support with HD audio would be great.
What would be great is if Plex had the ability to show 3D movies in 2D so it's not necessary to have 2 copies of a movie
It does that for 3d MVC files, its showing them as 3d that’s the problem. I guess it doesn’t for half-sbs files, but that would be s good option for every format in case you don’t want to put on 3d glasses.
+1 for 3D support using MVC over HDMI 1.4
I also really like the idea of a 3D toggle in both the player and in the main PlexHT screen
+1 for MVC support over HDMI 1.4. What would be a start is if the Media Server could detect MVC encoded files..
While I would also really love full 3D support. I don't really think this should be a priority for the plex team. MVC is really complicated and would need a massive amout of work at both the codecs and core of Plex. Even XBMC which has a very large number of active contributors compared to Plex has no full 3D support. Also haven't seen it in any other opensource projects except for Bino.Â
I think it would be better to wait for XBMC to add it and since PHT is a fork of Frodo their changes would be relatively easy to use in PHT. This way the small Plex team can work on things that benefit a larger amount of people.
One thing that could be used while full 3D support isn't ready yet is a simple SBS/TAB GUI for Plex based on the filename of a video.
See https://github.com/elupus/xbmc/commits/3d for code that would be relatively easy to add to PHT.
