Over lunch at work I like to watch old tv shows. Lately I have noticed the new app isn’t handling 480p and SD content properly when remote.
If I set the remote quality to 720p it seems like the transcoder tries to bring the content up to that resolution and, when viewed in Dash, bandwidth spikes like crazy. Setting it to Original, I get a black screen that may or may not play eventually, again with spikes of up to 40 mbps in Dash.
If I force a transcode it plays nearly instantly.
The files in question are h.264, m4v files that are streaming optimized. most are aroun 600 MB or less and maybe 1600kbps bitrate.
I have tried with and without the HVEC transcoder but still it persists.
Only seems to be an issue remote. Files play fine locally. Also its not my network. 5G on the devices and 2 Gbps upload on the server. Seems like the app and server are just not talking right.
