4K / 1080P Video skipping, audio dropped

Server Version#: 1.16.1.1246
Player Version#: UNKOWN (Latest, re-installed 22/06/19)

Issue has been becoming increasing prevalent over the last 2-3 months. It is occurring with both 1080p and 4k files. Files that have been played previously without issue are experiencing the issue.

It is not clear if this is a server issue or player issue.

Video playback will start (Direct Play), 5 to 30 minutes into playing, video will slow right down (1-2 frames a second) and audio will drop completely. Network traffic, both on Windows and Plex drop to near zero.

In some cases the video will speed back up after a few minutes, once back to full speed the audio kicks in again. It may then finish the video without issue or the same issue will occur again in as short as 30 seconds.

Both Samsung TV’s are wired (issue present on wireless as well).
Server is Win 10, 6700k, 32gb RAM, Gigabit wired
NAS - pointed at Win server - 8x10TB - 7200RPM HDDS, Gigabit wired.

Issue is not present when playing files directly via Win DLNA.

Any suggestions / help would be greatly appreciated. As stated the problem is only getting worse with each update it appears.

Since it doesn’t happen with the DLNA server I suspect it’s a player issue. Does this still happen if you don’t direct play? Try direct streaming, this requires very little cpu power on the server and has fixed weird issues for me in the past.

I will test out direct streaming and report back. Thank you for the suggestion.

I have tried Direct Streaming out as well. While it appears to eliminate the audio drop and frame stutter, it never plays long enough to ultimately confirm. It starts to buffer every 10-30 seconds. Which, I don’t believe should be occurring given the variables, either way.

Anyone one have any other suggestions as to what the possible issue might be?

Anyone else have any other suggestions??
