4k @ 60Hz, choppy video. 4k @ 30Hz, silky smooth

Rig:
i3 4330
ASRock Haswell itx motherboard
4GB Ram, 240GB SSD, 1TB storage drive
NVidia GTX 1050 card
70" Samsung 630 series TV, set to PC input, 4:4:4 Chromascaling
Denon AVR-S720W, also HDMI 2.0a device, HDCP 2.2
Win 7

All videos are choppy as hell @ 4k 60Hz but smooth as can be @ 30Hz. Doesn’t matter if I am playing a 1080 or 4k source, it is choppy and unwatchable (audio is perfect though). Using Monoprice premium high speed HDMI cables as well (60Hz video would flash in-out every couple of seconds with my old cables, hence me now discovering this choppy video issue).

what version of openpht are you using?

Do you have Kodi installed? does it work in Kodi?

I never use Kodi, since it doesn’t really meet the needs of my general use. I did install/try it, and it is smooth on Kodi. Tried same video back-to-back; choppy on OpenPHT, smooth on Kodi.

1.6.2.123-e23a7eef is the version I am running.

To add further insult, 1080p is not running choppy in OpenPHT. I also have the regular PHT installed, but it has a different issue, where it shows to scrunched up versions of the video crammed to the top part of the screen side-by-side.

please update to the latest version of openpht to start with, 1.7.1 and check you have the same issue

i had a feeling it would work in the latest kodi.

uninstall that kodi, and install this older one http://mirrors.kodi.tv/releases/win32/old/kodi-15.2-Isengard.exe

Isenguard is the one that openpht for windows playback is currently based on, just with a newer ffmpeg

if you have the same issue with kodi 15.2 isengard then probably going to be out of luck until a future version of openpht
