Jul 14, 2020 12:57:35.095 [8916] DEBUG - MDE: Cannot direct stream video stream due to profile or setting limitations
It appears the Shield Pro 2019, or the display to which it is attached, does not like the SMPTE ST 2084 information in the movie (SMPTE ST 2084 is part of the HDR10/10+/Dolby Vision/HLG standards).
Is the Shield Pro 2019 connected to a HDR capable TV?
If it is a HDR capable TV:
Check the TV settings. On some TVs, HDR has to be enabled for each HDMI input. It may be called “deep color” or similar.
Compare the Shield TV video settings between the two units (the Shield settings, not the Plex app settings).
Compare the Plex app settings on each Shield.
If the problem persists, try swapping the two units. Use the same HDMI port when swapping the Shields (Ex: If Shield 1 is connected to HDMI 1, then connect Shield 2 to the same port). Does the problem move with the Shield or stay with the TV?
What is the make/model for each TV?
Attach the Plex XML or DisplayInfo text view output to the thread. See Investigate Media Information for details on gathering the information. Save the information as a .txt or .log file. The forum does not support .xml files.
The verdict final is, I connected my 2015 shield to the TV or was connected to the 2019, and no transcoding when plmayig movie, which clearly excludes a problem with the TV.
I think i have an issue with player of Shield 2019… not with PMS 2019 because when I playing the same movie from PMS 2019 on the shield 2015, I don’t have any transcoding… → PMS 2019 is OK.
TV1 (Shield 2019) is Panasonic TX48AX630E
TV2 (Shield 2015) is an old Panasonic plasma 720p (yes i do )
→ Plex app setting absolutly same
→ PMS setting absolutlu same
→ PMS version same
→ Player version (last same)
some days before, the same animation worked without transcoding problem …
I even reset the 2019 shield without success
In shield setting, its approximatly same… (Upscaling desable on shield 2019 but Android TV is in 4K)
the 2019 shield supports dolby vision, the 2017 shield does not, that could be one reason/difference.
as ford guy clearly showed above from the logs, the rip is using SMPTE ST 2084 and the 2019 shield, either alone or in conjunction to your particular tv, does not like this encoding.
You should either re-rip with normal encoding, or send the file back where you got it and get a different one.
while 4k, this tv does not appear to support any HDR
why the 2019 doesn’t like and the 2017 does, I do not know.
as for why it may have worked before, I couldn’t tell you, other than to suggest you might have thought it worked but didn’t, or maybe a different file was downloaded, or maybe there was some android update.
without logs from before and after, its really impossible to say.
though the current logs say, it doesn’t like that encoding, for whatever reason.
Unfortunately no progress on my side … my TV doesn’t have the HDR function.
However i promise my kids watched cartoons that didn’t work.
The solution I put in place while waiting to pay myself an HDR TV is to use Plex for Kodi.
Since then I no longer have any transcoding.
Over the updates, Plex or Shield I return to the Official application and I test the cartoon without success.
→ 3 days ago, there was an update on the Shield, which allows to transform HDR to SDR. I thought it was going to work, but I can’t find the option in the menu.
Oh! Wait! I see @TeknoJunky’s comment now. I agree, I don’t see any HDR support advertised or documented. That certainly explains why it isn’t in the capabilities list.
I know @ChuckPA has talked about using the Shield to do tone mapping successfully.
