Hi,
Server Version#: 1.28.2.6151
Player Version#: 1.53.1.3225-c0bc6cc4
I’ve seen another post about this in July but it went to PMs so not sure what the outcome was.
I noticed a friend trying was watching a 4k video but the server was transcoding it to SD (H264) and AAC.
In the Plex Media Player app it shows Quality: Original (3.2Mbps, 2160 4k) when playing locally to the server.
On the server it shows 7Mbps
Changing the Quality on the Plex Media Player app
Convert to 1080p HD (High) 20Mbps - No change
Convert to 1080p HD (Medium) 12Mbps - No change
Convert to 1080p HD 10Mbps - No change
Convert to 1080p HD 8Mbps - No change
Convert to 720p HD (High) 4Mbps - No change
Convert to 720p HD (Medium) 3Mbps - Changes bitrate to 3Mbps and SD (H264)
If I do the same with a 1080p video
In the Plex Media Player app it shows Quality: Original (2.7Mbps, 1080p HD) when playing locally to the server.
On the server it shows 4Mbps
Changing the Quality on the Plex Media Player app
Convert to 1080p HD (High) 20Mbps - No change
Convert to 1080p HD (Medium) 12Mbps - No change
Convert to 1080p HD 10Mbps - No change
Convert to 1080p HD 8Mbps - No change
Convert to 720p HD (High) 4Mbps - No change
Convert to 720p HD (Medium) 3Mbps - No change
Convert to 720p HD 2Mbps - Changes bitrate to 2Mbps and SD (H264)
I presume Plex counts 720 as SD and not HD hence it saying SD. But it also seems like it’s trying to match the resolution with the bitrate and doesn’t try to transcode if it doesn’t match up so it’s not trying to transcode it to 1080
Thanks,
Andy
