4k streaming and Mac Mini + Ethernet problem

Hi! First of all sorry for my english , im from argentina :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been a user of Plex for a long time, but now i bought a HDR 4k TV and i;ve some issues, because my connection is all wifi the streaming to the tv is always buffering. Also now i have a mac mini server with a lot of storage to use as a “server”. It would be easy for me to plug the mac mini to the tv but it has no hdr and 4k support. I want this configuration to stream via ethernet to the tv and also use the mac mini connected to wifi to download files.

So… is there is a way to connect the tv via ethernet and acces PLEX via ethernet to the stream? is there another better solution?

Thank you so much for your time

If a Plex app is not available for your TV, use an AppleTV 4K, Roku, Shield, etc as a Plex client.

For best results, attach the computer running Plex Media Server to your network via an Ethernet cable. 4K requires more bandwidth than 1080/720/SD content. If you have buffering now due to wifi, it will only get worse with 4K.

Hi fordGuy61… Thats the problem! i want to attach the mac mini with ethernet (no hdmi) to the tv (with plex support) but only to the mac mini to share the wifi, but connect to the tv trough ethernet

I suppose you could try using Internet sharing on the Mac, but I’ve no idea if it would work. It is generally used to turn a Mac into a hotspot for others to access via wifi. You’re doing the opposite. It won’t hurt to try.

Still think you would be better served by attaching the Mac to your router with an Ethernet cable.
