Every time I try to play 4K video on the desktop app, it stutters. I tried to follow this post for reference, but I didn’t see the options that were being referenced on the Mac version 4k movies are stuttering I have 1GBps internet, and I receive around 200 MBps upload and download on Wi-Fi consistently, so I’m pretty sure my Internet is not the problem… Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You need this client: Plex Media Player
The settings are in TV mode, icon is upper right.
Plex and 4k is working badly! I spent a lot of time trying different configuration but all 4k videos were stuttering (more or less depending on the configuration but not smooth enough to be watched!)
Try “Infuse” it plays 4k without problem and it can even be synced with your Plex library 
Plex and 4K work great!
If you want help with your Plex set up, post some details.

That is actually not under video, it will be under Main, use the arrow keys to scroll down.
I did… but I’m still unable to play 4k smoothly (I’m speaking about 4k h265 atmos with or without subtitles).
Sorry spaced out, you are on a Mac, that would be a Windows setting. @darcilicious would have the best insight on that.
Okay now I have a separate issue… the audio is super quiet… Any ideas?
Figured it out. Under audio I had to deselect “Normalize downmixed volume”, whatever that means LOL

I realize I am totally bumping this thread, but how come hardware decoding is only available while in TV mode and not the regular mode? Makes no sense
The settings are only available in TV mode but once made it is active in both modes.

No it doesn’t appear to be. Whenever I try to watch something in 4K not in the TV mode, it buffers/transcodes constantly… When I am in the TV mode, it doesn’t buffer
wtf… now it’s working fine 
Not a Mac user so needed to wait for one of them to confirm/deny, glad to hear it is working.
