4k video transcoding ??

Hi all,

I’m sure this will be a easy question for those in the know, but I cannot work it out.

My son got himself a 4k monitor at xmas and asked me to get some 4k media to play. I brought some of the Planet Earth ii series.

Thing is, if I play them from from phone or smart TV (remote or local), they play fine, however if I play them from a Windows PC using the Plex app (MS Surface or PC with GTX 1080) it stutters and the plex transcoding service (Windows VM) get to 100%. I have a Xeon 2690 and the Windows server is highly spec’d.

I dont understand why this is happening. Tried setting the video to Original and different types. Why is it transcoding and why does it happen on other devices?

File is mkv.

Try downloading PMP or OpenPHT, not the app from the Windows store.

AMG. I would have never believed it was the App. Download the windows version as you suggested and it play fine and the CPU is now hardly breaking a sweat on the server!
