Playing 4k on my PC is transcoding

Server Version#: 4.30.2
Player Version#: 4.30.2 it’s the same as the server

THe server that is hosting my Plex server is transcoding 4k content when played on it’s self. One of the monitors is a 4k monitor, and there really should be a Audio or Video Codex issue, but maybe there is?

I THINK I set the local playback quality to Maximum.

Any insight was to why it is still transcoding?

Web browsers have very limited playback capability.

Try Plex for Windows instead.

I thought that they discontinued that app?

The old Plex app that was in the Windows Store was discontinued. Plex Media Player, which is still available for download, is in maintenance mode, receiving bug fixes, but no new features.

Plex for Windows is the replacement (product docs).

Plex for Windows is diffrent than the Plex Media Player?

I have the Plex Media Player, and it’s not transcoding, so you were right. Thanks

Do I need to download Plex for Windows instead though?

Use the one you like best. PMP has TV Mode, which gives it the look and feel similar to Plex’s SmartTV apps. Plex for Windows does not have TV Mode, but will have access to latest features such as Watch Together, Intro Skip, etc. (I’m not aware of a full feature comparison between the two.).
