7.1 TrueHD transcoding crashes after upgrading Plex Media Server to 1.41.7.9799

After upgrading Plex Media Server to version 1.41.7.9799, the transcoder process crashes when trying to transcode Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio so it can play on my Roku devices. The Plex client on Roku reports the error:

Playback Stopped
Conversion failed. The transcoder process crashed.

I don’t see this issue when it’s transcoding TrueHD 5.1 or TrueHD 2.0 audio. It only seems to crash when trying to transcode TrueHD 7.1 audio.

This is an issue with 1.41.7.9799, and has been for a minute. The only solution for the time being is to revert back to 1.41.6.9685. Here’s a link if that helps: https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server-new/1.41.6.9685-d301f511a/debian/plexmediaserver_1.41.6.9685-d301f511a_amd64.deb

FYI, there’s a problem with the 1.41.7 builds and transcoding TrueHD to EAC3 for Roku devices. Plex is aware of the problem.

The 1.41.6 and earlier builds work OK.

If you want to fall back, look in the Updates directory in the Plex Data Folder. On Windows systems, Plex keeps the last few installers in that location.

PMS 1.41.7.9823 was released as beta earlier today. It fixes the problem transcoding audio to EAC3. Release Notes: Plex Media Server - #677 by chris_decker08
