I’ve noticed since the latest update that when any device attempts to play a file with a TrueHD track transcoding fails immediately. It is not isolated to specific devices and has only started occurring in the last few weeks. I have tried both APT Plex Server and Snap Plex Server with no changes on the latest version and on a slightly older version but still 1.43. Transcoding video and other audio tracks works fine.
Specs: i5 9th gen iGPU - Ubuntu Server
On my android device i get the error “Conversion failed. the transcoder process crashed.”
Is anyone else having this issue?

Player Version#: Latest Android, FireTV and Samsung

Oh my god, its the Codecs folder issue… AGAIN.
Why has this not been fixed for 5 whole years?
The solution is:
- Stop PMS
- Delete the folder in Plex’s appdata: Plex-Media-Server/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Codecs/
- Start PMS
Before and after logs attached. Looks like EasyAudioEncoder crashing out again. Surely this happens so often you should add a check for this?

yup same here, started happening after i updated to the latest plex(i thought i learned my lesson back in the windows hard freezing days but i guess i trust the devs too much). actually im just gonna roll back to 1.42 b/c this is too frustrating.
Plex TrueHD decoder errors (decoder error: 254, TrueHD processing failed) during playback in my system crash logs.
Edit: still crashes in 1.42 so I’ll be trying to delete the codecs and keep an eye on it. If it crashes again i have verbose and debug logging turned on and I’ll send claude after it
1. 12:09 — EAE service (PID 54102) got stuck in a loop, flooding decoder information: 249 (this is EAE's internal diagnostic/error code)
2. 12:41 — A transcoder was spawned with -codec:1 eac3_eae for “Mama June S08E06 - Check Mate” (the same file that triggered chapter thumbnail generation in the original journalctl). EAE was also spun up for Voice Activity Detection on the
same file
3. 12:50 — Transcoder for “The Proposal” was OOM-killed (signal -9), memory peaked at 47.8GB across the whole service
4. 12:51 — systemd stopped Plex; EAE service killed last
eac is freezing my computer b/c it’s taking a ridiculous amount of ram when it fails.
Not sure if it’s the same issue but TrueHD wasn’t transcoding for me, I tried deleting the Codecs as suggested here and that got it transcoding again but the picture alternates showing multicoloured glitches every so often, never seen this before. Could be unrelated but the picture is fine when using an alternative AC track
