9.23.0.1746 Episodes not showing up on show details

Server Version#:?
Player Version#: 9.23.0.1746

Hello there,

just wanted to let you guys know that this new version made the tvshows section unusable… By other means there is a bug.

Updated on my Galax Tab S4 and suddenly no tvshow episodes were shown at all.

Found out that starting the next episode by pressing the yellow button under the cover, and then pressing the return button on the S4 made the episodes show up, but only temporarily…

Maybe you can look into it.

For now sticking to 9.21.3.1621.

Cheers guys

Hi,

I’m also just now starting to have this issue on multiple Android devices. I had to take my Plex offline for a bit, but reconnecting to it doesn’t seem to load the TV shows consistently in the seasons. I just rolled back to 9.21.3.1621, but it didn’t fix, the issue still remains. Sometimes the shows show, sometimes not. I’ve tried the latest versions (including betas) and I’m still having the same issue. Everything worked great before I took it offline, now it’s just not working and I can’t figure out why. It all looks as it should on my Roku and PC, so this seems to be related to Android clients, not the server.

I’m running multiple tablets and phones on multiple versions of Android (from 10 to 12) and they’re all having this issue on and off.

Is your server under load when this issue is happening? I’m wondering if it’s somehow related to that? It’s the only thing I can think of right now.

I’ve experienced this problem as well. Appears to happen more often on our Samsung tablet than Samsung phone.

Clear cache etc… had no effect on the tablet, episode list appears empty. I’ll gather some client logs and have them on standby if a developer requests them.

I will add that I just tried my wife’s Samsung Tab S6 Lite that was still on 9.20.1.979 and it seemed to have the same issue, so I don’t know that it’s strictly newer versions causing the issue. Happy to pull logs if someone requests, just let me know what.

Hey there,

nope, server is only used by me, nothing was running.

It’s as i say:

Episodes not showing,
Start an episode, press “back” to exit
Episodes show up.
Revert back to old Plex App Version: everything works as it should.

Clearing cache doesn’t help. Restarting my Ubuntu Plex Media server doesn’t help either.

Using Nvidia Shield: no issue.
Using the browser on my Smartphone: no issue.

So.it has to be:

1- the new App
2- the new App + using Samsung Device

Let’s hope an admin shows up here.

Cheers

I have the same issue for at least 2 months now. I use a Nokia 8.1 phone running Android 11.

Sometimes the episodes show up, sometimes they doesn’t. I must back to the TV-Shows section and try again… They sometimes show up, and sometimes they doesn’t. Then i go back …

It’s not clear what the issue could be. I tried to clear the cache, and clear data, reinstalled the app, but it is not the solution.

Best regards,

Thanks for letting us know that this isn’t strictly samsung device related.

On the other side you are using a different version of the app, since this has happened to you for a long time now…

So it might be indeed server software related, since the server version was updated lately as well…

Kinda weird what’s going on…

Let’s wait to hear from the developers

Cheers

We don’t watch much on tablets or phones but this problem certainly has been happening for a while now and is NOT a new issue. However, IMO its now much worse now, especially on tablet (Galaxy Tab A).

Steps to repro are easy (at least for me):

  • Select any TV show from continue watching home hub.
  • Once at the pre-play screen then select the three dots on the right and select go to season.

Result: No episodes are shown, screenshot below.

This also happens on mobile but appears far less. Also, on mobile killing the app, clear cache and restarting fixes the issue. THIS DOES NOT WORK ON THE TABLET.

Logs can be supplied upon request from development. I’ll not be uploading them publicly.

EDIT: Looking in the log myself this happens RIGHT AT THE FAILURE WITH THE TABLET CLIENT:

Hey there,

thanks for letting us know

have you tried a mini-series for example, with the season having less than 8 episodes?

Just a wild guess from my part

Cheers

Unlikely but you just never know – I use Filebot to name all my tv media using { ~plex.unix * {" ($y) {tmdb-$id}"} } which matches exactly the naming plex demands.

Ok…

What about mini-series? Do you have one where the season has less than 8 episodes?

Just throwing out wild guesses

NO difference. Checked Salem's Lot which has 2 episodes and it still does not list the episodes. Checked played, unplayed and mixed shows with partial play status all the same (on the tablet)!

Thanks for testing

I’m not a coding expert, so i’ll leave that to the developers

Since this happens on different android app versions and mostly on samsung tablets, my guess is that a recent server update broke something.
At least on my tablet there were no system updates recently. Only the plex app was updated
Cheers

@BigWheel just flagging the only dev I’ve ever had respond to anything to make sure someone sees this. This happens on two Samsung tablets, a Lenovo tablet, and a Moto G Stylus (2022) on Android 10, 11, & 12.

What server version is everyone on? I’m using 1.32.1.6999, but I know it was also happening with an older version (I neglected to note which one). I’m running it on a TerraMaster F2-220 NAS device. Just like everyone else, sometimes shows just don’t display, but jumping around brings them back sometimes. Not sure if nuking my server to start over would fix, but would rather not find out if I can avoid it.

For what its worth I’m using 1.32.3.7089.

So this is only happening on tablets? Your phones are ok?

Thanks for letting us know.

Will check later what version i’m using, but i keep it always updated on Ubuntu.
Using a i5-8500T server.

Don’t do everything from scratch. I had issue with not being able to download on Android, so i had to keep an oooooooooold version where it worked

Now, i think almost 2 years later, downloads are working again even with the most recent app.

So yeah, plex is slow to fix issues but eventually they end up doing so

Cheers

It happens on my Samsung phone as well but NOT to the same extent. Samsung tablet happens 100% were phone is intermittent.

Nope, happens on my Moto G Stylus (2022) as well.

This is happening on for my 2 kids’ managed users accounts, but not for my primary account. It’s also happening on both a tablet and multiple phones, but only on Android clients, not iOS or Google TV.

And it’s happening 100% of the time for my kids’ accounts. Makes it basically unusable for them on the tablet.

Server Version#: 1.32.4.7164
Player Version#: 9.23.0.1746 and 9.24.0.2105

I have 2 managed users for my 2 kids. Both users are set with the same restrictions (can only see shows/movies with the Label kids). On both users on an Android (Samsung) tablet and 2 Android (Samsung) phones, when you click on a TV show and then on a season, it will not show the episodes within the season. You can still click on the “Play” button for the Season, then when you click the X to stop playback, it will go back to the season and now will show the episodes in the season. If you leave the season and go back into it again, it will again show no episodes.

My main account can view all the episodes within seasons without issue. I have also tried removing the restrictions from one of the managed users but that didn’t fix it.

This issue appears to only happen on Android Plex Client. If I open the Google TV Plex Client, you can see episodes within seasons without any issue.
