A couple matching problems with a show

Hi all,

I’ve generally had little/no problems with Plex correctly matching and sorting shows out, and fixing any mismatches by hand, but I’ve run into one show that has a couple of problems that I can’t clear up on my own.
The show is an anime called “Chi’s Sweet Home” (https://www.thetvdb.com/series/chis-sweet-home/seasons/all)
As you can see, it has several seasons. The first problem I have is that Season 1 and Season 2 are both being identified as Season 1. Plex is using TheTVDB to match it and finding the match, but doesn’t seem to understand that the show has more than 1 season, so it lumps it all together under one season, with each episode number being “duplicated”, and when you play them, you get that episode number from either Season 1 or Season 2. I’ve worked around this by forcing Plex to unmatch and split the episodes based on the directories, but this feels like maybe a bug or something that might want to get fixed?

The second problem is that each season has 104 episodes (each episode is basically a 5 minute short), and apparently Plex doesn’t count that high. In the Library view, Plex shows 100 episodes in each season, and considers episode 101 to be a duplicate of episode 001, so, like above, when you click to play it, you get one or the other, seemingly at random. I haven’t found a workaround for this, and it feels very much like a Plex bug or issue.

Does anyone have any advice on either issue?
Thanks!

Plex doesn’t have any issues with episode numbers in that range (frankly speaking I’m not aware of any such constraint at all).

How exactly did you name those shows?

TV Shows ← your main folder added to the tv-show library
.. / Chi's Sweet Home ← the show name (optionally incl. the year the show first aired
.. .. / Season 01
.. .. .. / Chi's Sweet Home - s01e01.ext ← 1st episode of season 1 w/ ext being the file extension
.. .. .. / Chi's Sweet Home - s01e02.ext
.. .. .. / ...
.. .. .. / Chi's Sweet Home - s01e104.ext
.. .. / Season 02
.. .. .. / Chi's Sweet Home - s02e01.ext
.. .. .. / ...

With this, Plex should be perfectly able to recognize the right season and episode numbers and pull the respective metadata.

When it comes to tv shows, file names are key

The directory and files look like this:

TV Shows
.. / Chi's Sweet Home <- the show name (optionally incl. the year the show first aired
.. .. / [Biraru] Chi's Sweet Home - 001 [DVD][576p][10-bit][x264][AC3][3EBA7503].mkv
.. .. / [Biraru] Chi's Sweet Home - 002 [DVD][576p][10-bit][x264][AC3][3C4D839E].mkv
.. .. / ...
.. / Chi's New Address ← The second season is named differently, but Plex/TheTVDB understands that it’s part of the same series, though not the second season
.. .. / [Biraru] Chi's New Address - 001 [DVD][576p][10-bit][x264][AC3][690D22EE].mkv
.. .. / ...

I could try renaming the directories to be more explicit (Season 1, Season 2) and see if that resolves that issue. The 100 episode thing boggles me a bit though, since that file naming seems pretty good, and Plex has handled filenames like it before with no issue.

Plex requires the tv show files to be strictly named.

The extra square bracket sections will be ignored.
If it worked for you in the past, count yourself lucky… the only way to ensure it works consistently is by following the official naming conventions (see above).

Ah, I see, I guess I have been lucky most of the time then!

Thanks!
