An optional Metadata database for home movies, non - mainstream videos, video clips etc.
A optional metadata source where you can add meta for home videos etc. that can be used to match data that has no match on meta data servers so you can add “actors”, tags, etc so that if something happens to Plex or you change hardware or for whatever reason you don’t lose the metadata you create, It can all be saved and will automatically populate when you select it as a data source.
Some simple reformatted open database should do the job…
Yes. I have also considered that adding niceties like “actors” with pictures and bios which could be added to videos easily and tags for easy sorting of videos would be really nice too.
There is probably more rich data that could be added as well…
I’m curious if we’re actually talking about home media and you’re aiming to add that kind of rich metadata for individual family members?
While embedded metadata cannot handle that to the richness you’ve described, it does allow adding actor names (as well as quite a number of other data for sorting).
Regular movies / shows should be listed on the big metadata repositories or can be added there if it’s missing (even the adult stuff… just in case that’s what you mean by home media).
I am adept enough with meta to keep my Looney Tunes collection properly tagged, identified etc, and trust me that’s no easy task given the multitude of different collections released in different formats and collections. I am also aware of the options for identifying various other media including adult material.
To be simple - I have a mental injury that affects something called working memory and I find file tags very difficult to work with. Given the simplicity (and visual cues) of filling out form data in the plex interface, and the ease of adding tags, rich actor data, etc. My thought was that a separate “personal” database that could be quickly and easily separated from plex for troubleshooting, and for backup, would be an ideal and simple to work with option for people who love custom data in plex for anything.
