Add custom cast metadata to personal media (Home Movies)

I’ve been researching how to add custom cast metadata to personal media (home movies) in Plex for several hours. So far, I have not found anything. Is there a way to modify the plex metadata via a command-line tool and reference custom photos to a custom cast list?

I am providing a photo I made in GIMP for a visual representation of what I’m trying to achieve. I’m trying not to use plug-ins since they are deprecated. If it’s not possible at the moment could it be added as a possible feature in the future?

You can include cast and crew details via embedded metadata (for mp4, m4v or mov files). However that’s only supporting the addition of names, not images.

Do you have any reference documentation for what tags Plex looks for? I plan to use mp3tag for embedding the metadata. Do you know of a better tool?

I noticed Plex has an Sqlite CLI tool. Would it be possible to edit individual home movie metadata via this tool in order to achieve what I want? I already made a backup of my database. Thanks.
