A new device was used to sign in to your Plex account

I’ve received this message in email. I changed my password. A few hours later I receive the same message. I don’t connect via FB or Google and use strictly a user name and password. I’m unsure what this means. At the moment, my computer which usually runs Plex (on windows) is sleeping. The NAS drives which I sometimes run are off. This is a bit of mystery and hopefully someone can advise on what is going on here. I did some research but unsure how to remedy or how much of a problem this potentially can be.

A new device was used to sign in to your Plex account:

  • Account: myusername
  • Device: Plex Website
  • Location: Park Ridge, Illinois, United States (estimated)
  • IP address: ##.###.###.##8

If you don’t recognize this activity, we recommend that you change your password immediately to secure your account.

I too have had this in the last week but to my knowledge there has been no new device accessing Plex.

This is an automated email, alerting you of the activity. It is intended to improve security.
It could very well be, that this was caused by you, logging in to plex.tv in a new web browser (or a web browser which had its cookies wiped).

Do you recognize the location or the IP address?

I received one of these today. I don’t recognize the IP address. It definitely isn’t me. I changed my password and blocked the IP on my firewall but now I’m concerned Plex may have a security issue.

No - not only do I not recognize the IP address (nor the time) but there are other instances which clearly don’t appear to be me. Three hours ago this - I don’t know what it is

Plex Media Server
Docker Container
Linux 4.15.0-54-generic

Two months ago this - and I don’t generally use Linux nor have I set up Tautulli.

I’m at a loss to explain what I’m seeing.

Then I can only recommend you to change your plex password ASAP.
And sign-out all connected devices in due course.

Unfortunately this means that you will have to re-connect all your servers and clients back to your account. But it is the only way to remove “rogue” devices from your account.

It might come in handy to re-login your server.
