A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex

Server Version#: 1.21.0.3616-d87012962
Player Version#:

Hello, I’m having some issues getting Plex to work. It was running fine until I decided to update my version (I was on like 1.18.xxx or something like that).

Here is what I did:

  1. systemctl stop plexmediaserver
  2. wget https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server-new/1.21.0.3616-d87012962/debian/plexmediaserver_1.21.0.3616-d87012962_amd64.deb
  3. sudo dpkg -i plexmediaserver_1.21.0.3616-d87012962_amd64.deb
  4. systemctl status plexmediaserver
  5. Attempt to launch plex webapp through 192.168.1.3:32400/web/index.html
  6. At this point, it starts loading and tells me “Please wait a moment while Plex starts.”
  7. Screen loads and then says “A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex”

I don’t know which logs to include here, so here is Plex Media Server.log created today.

Appreciate the help!

It looks like the plugins are having troubles starting. I haven’t seen this in a while, but I’ve seen where stopping plexmediaserver fails to stop all processes and child processes. You will want to make sure everything shuts down including plugins.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know how to stop the plugins?

Alright, so I was able to get it working by assigning folder permissions appropriately to the plex user:

sudo chown -R plex:plex /var/lib/plexmediaserver

I then reinstalled Plex Media Server just for good measure, and I was able to proceed normally.
