I have Blu-ray discs of all episodes from the seven seasons on TV of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Season 1 starts off with one film that contains both Episode 1 and Episode 2. But after doing the “Scan Library Files”, Episode 1 shows up correctly, there is no Episode 2 (which is not a problem because Episode 2 is part of the first film). But thereafter, every episode displays the name and a Poster not from the given episode number, but from the next episode.
The naming of the first few files is as follows:
Star Trek - Season 01 - Star Trek - s01e01 - Encounter at Farpoint, Part 1.mkv
Star Trek - Season 01 - Star Trek - s01e03 - The Naked Now.mkv
Star Trek - Season 01 - Star Trek - s01e04 - Code of Honor.mkv
I tried giving the first episode the following filename:
Star Trek - Season 01 - Star Trek - s01e01-e02 - Encounter at Farpoint, Part I.mkv
but that made the presentation even worse.
Can someone please tell me how to correct this annoying issue?
You are most likely defaulting to the TMDB order which has S01E01 - Encounter at Far Point and S01E02 - The Naked Now.
TVDB aired order has the episodes as S01E01 - Encounter at Far Point, S01E03 - The Naked Now.
Click on Star Trek: The Next Generation, click on the little pencil icon and select TVDB (aired) for episode ordering. I think that will fix things for you.
/tv
/Star Trek The Next Generation (1987)
/Season 01
/Star Trek The Next Generation s01e01 Encounter at Farpoint.mkv
/Star Trek The Next Generation s01e02 The Naked Now.mkv
If yes, then as @napolij mentions, edit the show (pencil icon) → Advanced → Episode Ordering = TMDB (Aired) or TVDB (DVD).
Plex pulls episode ordering from TMDB and TVDB. You can pick the ordering that matches your file structure.
Your suggestion was the answer I was hoping to get! Thank you so very much.
The episodes are now correctly numbered and titled. The only thing not 100% correct is that the first movie is labeled as “Episode 1”. I was hoping it would somehow indicate that it was “Episode 1 & 2” or something to that effect. But I am perfectly happy with what you suggested.
Yeah, about the only tip-off is the length of the episode, 1 hr 30 min on my server. I think things get confusing because if I recall, that episode originally aired as a 2 hr special. Of course, in syndication, it is now split into a part 1 & part 2.
If I recall, you’ll run into this a few more times while populating later seasons as well as other Trek series as you add them.
