No. I haven’t edited anything on Plex’s files.
What is the FireTV audio setting (the FireTV itself, not the Plex app)?
The defaults as far as I know.
Surround Sound: “Best Available”
Advanced >
Volume Leveler: On
Dialog Enhancer: Off
Try
a) Fire TV: Dolby Digital Only
b) Plex app: Passthrough = HDMI
When I use those settings and play AAC 5.1 audio, my FireTV Cube (Gen 1) sends AC3 5.1 to my receiver. My PMS server shows Direct Play. The audio is converted from AAC to AC3 by the Cube (not by PMS or Plex app).
No. That didn’t work. Same result: AAC “not supported”.
Strange. I can’t force my Cube to transcode AAC. Some of the older FireSticks (Gen 1 / Gen 2) can behave differently due to device limitations. However, the Cube (Gen1) and FireStick 4K were both released in 2018. You would think they would behave the same, at least for AAC audio.
One last thought. What is displayed by Get Info / Media Info for the audio track? Is the profile lc?

Yes, they are low complexity files. When I said I tried multiple files earlier, I meant as in from multiple shows. Checking now it looks like they were all LC. Some are maxed out 640 kbps bitrate, some are only in the 300’s.
This will be fixed in version 7.23. I believe it’s in the current beta so if you want to try sideloading to test, see the beta thread.
I have the same isue with plex on my fire stick 4k.
the same file played in Emby plays the audio and video directly
wiht Setting (Optisch S/PDIF) its works.
The basic settings are a disaster on FireTV.
Normally the server should specify everything.

Hi all, subscribing because I just got my Firestick 4k and am seeing the exact same problems reported by others here.
I tried various settings (passthrough on or off in Plex, every output format except stereo in the Firestick settings) and every time the Plex info window says it’s direct playing the surround sound but my receiver only receives stereo.
My player is currently 7.25.2.14287 and still having this issue.
The Plex app on my TV can play all of these files perfectly.
@himen Did you said it worked with some setting? Can you elaborate more on what you did?
I have created another thread for similar issue.
