AAC Stereo? -> 5.1?

Sorry if this has been addressed many times before. I am running my PMS on a Mac Mini (it is also used as the media player for my main TV). I have that connected to an Onkyo TXNR709 AVR via HDMI.

Here’s the question/problem: I was using an ARNU Box Linux Mach10 as my media player for the last few years. Regardless of file type I was getting 5.1 sound when connected to my receiver. Now that I’m using the PMS…many of the same files are now only AAC Stereo. I have had some movies play DTS, etc, but it seems like a majority of my files are all coming across as AAC Stereo…

Any clue why this is? and how to fix it?

Pick a trouble file in the Plex web interface. Click the icon in the lower right corner and select “Get Info.” The settings that appear in the lower right will contain the details about the audio contained in the file.
Just a hunch, but I bet your trouble files are encoded as stereo. If so, you’ll want to fish for a setting in your receiver to pseudo convert to 5.1 channels, which either may have been set for the prior ARNU connection automatically, or your ARNU was doing something behind the scenes to throw out a 5.1 signal.

Or… I’m way wrong.
