About ready to give up with it

Just bought an apple tv 3 also to use netflix but also for plex. I have plex running on a windows 7 desktop computer but cannot for the life of me get them to work. I followed all the instructions on github and as soon as i changed the dns on my apple tv it did not work. I couldn't access any of the other features on the apple tv and i couldn't install the certificate wirelessly.

Any help guys would be appreciated

thanks

You will need to provide a lot more information. Logs, settings.cfg etc. Have a read of the pinned “read before posting” thread specifically the troubleshooting/how to report a problem section and provide all the info in the template so we can help you.

plex version Version 2.1.12

dns on apple tv to connect to plex is 192.168.1.136 (Can't do anything on the apple tv when that dns is entered)

Downloaded plex connect yesterday

http://127.0.0.1/ is the plex media server

Well, since Plex server is not even on version 1.x yet, lets start over.

Read THIS:

https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/How-to-report-an-issue

Then come back and post the proper info.

(And if your Plex server is 127.0.0.1, or you think it is, you're gonna have a bad time.)

sorry copied wrong one 0.9.9.10

Right apple tv 3 running 6.2

Current dns is 192.168.1.254

plex connect is installed on windows 7

plex media is also on windows 7

plex server version is 0.9.9.10

local ip is 192.168.1.136

download plex connect yesterday from github

Where is your log file?

Settings.cfg?

All the information asked for in https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/How-to-report-an-issue. Without that how can we even start to help. Help us help you

Sounds like you need to load the certificates on your aTV

https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/Install-Guide-Certificate-via-Ethernet

instead of bumping the post, actually read the link you have been referred to 3 times now and post ALL of the information it requests - then someone might be able to help.

I don't understand thats why i am asking for support.

I have completed all the steps provided except giving it a static ip.

Use this as a report template:

Basiclly copy and paste it from there to here and fill it out.

I don't know what the problem is. It doesn't seem to run right. As soon as i change the dns on my apple tv then i cant install the certificate or access any other content on my apple tv.

Don't understand the next bullet point.

  • Ensure you post your 'PlexConnect.log' file to pastebin and post the link ('PlexConnect.log' is located in your PlexConnect folder). If possible, follow these steps to create a "more detailed fresh" one:

    • shutdown PlexConnect
    • in 'Settings.cfg', set loglevel to "High"
    • delete the existing log file
    • restart PlexConnect
    • repeat the issue
    • immediately close PlexConnect and post the log.
    • in 'Settings.cfg', set the loglevel back to "Normal"
  • Ensure you post your 'PlexConnect.log' file to pastebin and post the link ('PlexConnect.log' is located in your PlexConnect folder). If possible, follow these steps to create a "more detailed fresh" one:

    • shutdown PlexConnect
    • in 'Settings.cfg', set loglevel to "High"

    • repeat the issue
    • immediately close PlexConnect and post the log.
    • in 'Settings.cfg', set the loglevel back to "Normal"

In the directory you installed PlexConnect into there are 2 files, Settings.cfg and PlexConnect.log - follow those bullet points, and upload your PlexConnect.log file to a forum post.

you really need to be less brief in your replies, this is becoming like pulling teeth for those trying to help you.

you got access is denied when doing what?

Sorry sorted that why i got why that happened

I don't get a log file when i run through the bullet points unless the log file is called plexConnect and is a text file?

Right tried it all again as soon as i change the dns on my apple tv then everything goes wrong. I can't access netflix and can't push the certificate to the apple tv.

Quick update.

I changed my computer to a static ip and rebooted my machine, router and apple tv. Like previously stated the problem occurs when i change the dns of the apple tv to the ip_self. When that happens i get no internet connection and can't access anything. When you reboot the apple tv all i get is the setting option and the computers button. Hope this shreds more light on the situation as i am out of ideas now.

We really need the log file. And yes if your on windows it may just look like a text file called plexconnect.

Remember to follow those bullet points.

  1. Shutdown plexconnect.py
  2. Open settings.cfg in notepad (or similar)
  3. Change loglevel = Normal to loglevel = High (note case of High)
  4. Start plexconnect.py
  5. Go to ATV and access trailers till the error occurs.
  6. Grab plexconnect.log (if your windows had hide known file extensions on the it will be just plexconnect and look like a text file)
  7. Add the file to a post here. Without this it is impossible to help.
