So i currently have a terrible internet connection (about 15 Mbps Download and 2 Mbps Upload), but i would like to use Plex on LAN but it is constantly buffering, this was not an issue in my old home as i had a good internet connection, would turning off remote access help with this issue?
What would you suggest to help fix Stream over LAN?
streaming over LAN should not be impacted by the speed of your internet connection. recreate your buffering issue then stop playback and provide your server logs. if all your content is doing this and not just 4k remux or something it is likely you are being forced into a relay connection.
It is a DS1520+, I also attach the server logs. This is happening with anime which is not in 4K so i don’t think this is a very exhaustive content to be played.
someone else will need to look at your logs to figure out why you got pages of errors in there that i’m not aware of but you streaming issues appear to be caused by you having a double nat situation. is the devices you are playing on connected to the same LAN as the PMS? i assume you must have a router given to you from your provider and then you also have a router behind that? can you provide a typography illustration of your set up from internet coming into your house to making it to the PMS and the player devices with all devices included in between?
It is basically the ISP modem connected to the router and all of the devices are connected to the router either by ethernet cable or WiFi.
The NAS is set under DMZ and the port 34200 is open on UPNP, the NAS has a static IP, the modem has no DHCP active and the router is the one setting up the devices by MAC filter through WiFi and i manually do the Static IP’s fot Ethernet connected devices
your nas should not be set up on DMZ. why did you opt to do that? that is your issue.
the NAS should be behind your router and your isp modem/router should be set up in bypass/bridge mode or whatever it may be called for that device so that your router is the only device routing packets.
if you move the syno behind the router an reboot it should work if you have upnp on. If it doesn’t work then there are other things that may need to be changed once it is in that typography.
I set up my router on bridge mode and it worked. Somehow upnp was still blocking some remote access so DMZ solved that issue. As for LAN Access you were completely right the double NAT was the problem
you still do not want your syno on DMZ. first, that separates it from the internal lan and second its is very high risk. unless you know what you are doing and are setting up firewalls correctly and proper monitoring i would highly not recommend doing this.
google setting up a nas or syno on a DMZ or exposing it directly to the internet and you can read about why this is a bad idea.
whateer issue you had that DMZ resolved you just need to fix that issue and leave the syno behind the router.
