Plex prefers using internet connection in home network (Synology)

Server Version#: Newest, Updated today. (PlexMediaServer-1.32.4.7195-7c8f9d3b6-x86_64_DSM7)
Player Version#: Version 1.72.2.3901-b7911c36
NAS: Synology 423+

Hey folks,

Ive justed finished setting up my plex on the NAS. Remote acces works fine and stuff. But if I stream 4k content in the home network (output device: nVidia Shield) its seems like the stream gets downscaled. It will show “original” in the playback settings, but I can tell it isnt. So I did all the settings, adding the NAS Lan IP and the IP for remote access to the settings. So why is plex preferring the internet connection over the LAN connection. I cant help myself. Only thing I found was “so change to unsecure connection”. Well… I want to stream my media safely if Im not at home, so this is not an option.

If correctly configured, local streaming stays local.

What did you add, and where?

If the Plex server and client (Shield) are on the same IP subnet, then no entries are required in SettingsNetworkLAN Networks. If you added anything there, please remove it and save changes.

Next, play something on the Shield and monitor playback via Plex Dashboard → Now Playing + Expanded View.

Is the stream shown as local, remote, or indirect?

It should be local. If remote or indirect, then something is misconfigured.

Edit: Also, it should direct play or direct stream.

Thank you soooo much! It was exactly this.
