Absolute Series Scanner (for anime mainly)

I’m having a bit of an issue with the scanner and the Madoka Magica movies. AniDB has a single entry covering all three, but TMDB has a single entry per movie.

Currently, I have each of the three movies in separate folders with a tmdb.id file alongside them containing their TMDB IDs. However, the scanner has recognised them as a single “Gekijouban Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Part 1” entry and combined them.

What’s the best way to handle naming/scanning the Madoka Magica movies?

Edit: Just realised that the library I have all my anime movies in is using Hama as the metadata agent, but isn’t using the Absolute Series Scanner for scanning - using instead the Plex Movie Scanner. I don’t have the option to change to the Absolute Series Scanner, i’m guessing because it’s installed to Scanners/Series. Should I make a copy in Scanners/Movies and switch to using the Absolute Series Scanner for this library?

If you use a movie library therefore plex movie scanner the brackets will be dropped and the id ignored so name them as per anidb or custom match them puting the tmdb id at the end…
Using a serie library allow to use absolute series scanner and ids in foldername or file…

I did some testing and created a new Series library just containing the films, and it did pick them up correctly but listed them as episodes of a series instead of individual entries like a Movie library would. I also tried a few naming variants (e.g. Gekijouban Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica and Gekijouban Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Part 1 Beginnings) but to no avail - they appear as individual entries in the library but no metadata is downloaded.

When a several movies are listed as the same AniDB entry is there any way to have them show up in a Movie library correctly? If not I might just move them to my Series library even though they’re technically Movies.

Well you could make them a 3 part file but apart from that no you have to use serie library.

Hi ZeroQl!

I want to use your scanner but i got one issue. I attached a the log file what i got and you can see i have some series (like High School and Dog Days) after scanning i can see only the second season.

Can you help me whats wrong? I’m using the latest edition the Hama and ASS.

Need absolute series scanner created log.
Some eps have ep number in brackets. It is unsupported and really bad. Series name include seasons…

Thanks the fast answer, i know this is not the best nameing for plex, i will rename and i attached all log what you want.
Maybe can i edit somehow the script to the parents folder name will be not be matching for a season scanning?

I’ve set all the language preferences to English, but the series titles are still in Japanese; how long should it take to convert everything to display the English series/titles?

@KinjinZero: language options are an agent setting, not a scanner construct. answered on hama thread

@batnor : all series are season 1 so when you match them to the same serie, all will stay the same and show multiple s01e01 episodes, one per season/serie.

EndOfLine369 did some funky coding into the scanner to merge series naturally using tvdb convention. the readme in my signature https://github.com/ZeroQI/Absolute-Series-Scanner .

One we just have created and not in readme is " [anidb2-xxxxx]" mode which will move it to the right season and ep number in tvdb naming convent [github.com/ZeroQI/Absolute-Series-Scanner/issues/46]

@KinjinZero not scanner issue
@batnor so you want to anidb numbered series but tvdb numbered display without renaming anything… Follow this improvement request https://github.com/ZeroQI/Absolute-Series-Scanner/issues/46 and try latest gist adding at the end of the serie folder name " [anidb2-xxxxx]" with xxxxx being the anidbid (remove the leading ‘a’ if found). And no, you can’t have season mapping from the serie folder name

Thanks for helping, yesteraday i renamed the folders and almost working all function. Some times i got series with anidb-xxxxx ending in plex page but i rename and edit manually or today i got planetarian episode 3 on the same map and same name only episode number different but i got differenet title in plex page, so i will refresh the client and ass+hama in the future

Hello, for some reason ASS can’t recognize .ass subtitle files at ERASED series.
It says “ext: ‘ass’ not in video_ext”. I even reinstalled ASS, rebooted Plex but it doesn’t help.
Every other series seems to work fine

.ass IS NOT a video extension but a subtitle extension.
The scanner doesn’t add subtitles but Plex detects them with the same title and allow to select. Somehow your sub isn’t in same folder or doesn’t have same title or a special character prevents it from working…

Please test with another scanner to prove my scanner isn’t causing the issue.
From your logs noticed:

we only add video ext to the list, we should add all exts
garbage log logged in filelist and cust scanner logs.

The scanner crash so Need plex media scanner log. The error is in there normally
Try latest scanner. It has code for module issues with python 3 under windows

So I have the following files in the same folder. Instead of being detected as 3 different episodes, they instead show as a single “Episode 100”. Is there support for series names that end with a number?

Please follow steps mentionned in the troubleshooting section of the scanner readme…
You most likely could have named your serie folder “Mob Psycho 100” and avoid the issue…

For some reason the scanner stopped showing up under possible scanners since yesterday. I noticed because when adding a new series all names were suddenly the japanese translated titles instead of the english ones that the files had and I deleted the library to recreate it. Here are my log files:
