Hi, I'm confused  and after reading a lot of posts i don't have yet understood if the PMS (latest version) + PlexPass membership (which I own) + PlexConnect (latest version) + ATV2 (actually I've two of them jailbroken with Plex client working) is able to correctly manage movies with audio track in AC3 (Dolby Digital 5.1) format, actually my ATV 2 is connected via optical audio cable to a surround BOSE system.
Please, someone of the developers/users could clarify this ?
I'm planning to switch my actual configuration from:
PMS on iMac
ATV2 with Plex client
to:
PMS + PlexConnect on my QNAP Nas TS469L (the movies already reside on it)
ATV2 (possibily upgraded to latest release) with PlexConnect hack to Apple Trailer (or other like wjs or iMovie)
There's a reason for this: I'd like to implement the Restricted Access via Multi User :D (https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201181926-Restricted-Access-via-Multi-User), it's already working in my house with the new test PMS I've installed on my NAS and my two iPad (1st gen and Air) but it doesn't work with my ATV 2 (entering different Plex Account in MyPlex section seems to have no difference and all the library are visible).

Thanks Bob Snot, I'm very very happy to reading this.
If this isn't too direct could you tell me which is your actual Plex environment configuration ? I mean hardware, PMS/PlexConnect version, devices, ecc. ?

PMS : Ubuntu 14.04, i7-4771, 0.9.9.18
Media Storage : ReadyNAS 516
Main Client: ATV3 (PlexConnect 0.4)
Other Clients: IOS, Android, Windows and Mac Plex/HT
Great! Congratulations for your brilliant environment.
Is your ATV3 upgraded to the latest firmware release ? 6.2 ?
What kind (if any) issues/troubles/problems do you have with this configuration ?
You know, I've my actual configuration that does work really really well and I wouldn't change to have issues (also if I really really like the Multi User Access Restriction due to my sons!!!)

yep, i always keep it on the latest version (I actually have 3 of them currently in the house, they all auto-update)
never have issues with them, they are pretty bullet proof and super user friendly.
Bob, does this mean I need to enable transcoding on the ATV for AC3 5.1 to work, and then my PMS will transcode the audio? My NAS is CPU-bound so I'm trying to avoid having it transcode audio for all my media.

no, AC3 on ATV is passthrough only, so it depend very much on the capabilities of the device your ATV3 is connected to.
Device is a Yamaha RC-V1900 and it switches to DD when there is only an AC3 stream. So it seems to be something to do with the ATV3 not finding and passing through the AC3 stream when there’s an AAC stream present.

I've never bothered with the multi audio streams, i simply passthrough the audio from whatever I rip (act, dts, dts-hd etc) and let plex sort it out. In my experience, there is no constancy in how the many clients i stream to expect to see the streams presented to them in order to guarantee the ability to universally ensure direct play.
But that means your PMS is transcoding and I don't have the CPU to do that reliably. Which is why I need to get the streams just right for my device.
so, then depending on your setup;
- if you are connected to an multi-channel AC3 compatible decoder on the end of the hdmi cable connected to your ATV then you want AC3 5.1 to be the default and first track within your file.
- if not the above, you need a format compatible with whatever that first device is (which honest, could be any number of things) to be the first and default track
ATVs are very specific as to what they "receive".
basically, to avoid trandcoding, you need to know a lot of detailed specifics about your setup.
