ACC 5.1 sound not playing in Windows player, but works on smart tb

Server Version#:1.19.1.2701
Player Version#:4.22.3
I’ve just started ripping with makemkv. Rips are running ok, some work, some i have to convert to mp4 to play. All show sound of aac 5.1. This won’t play back in windows web player but plays fine on smart tv. Plus it also plays in Windows Media Player. I’ve never seen an update for the windows web player. What am I missing?
Running win7, all the fixes, 8 gig ram, i5 4 core. running plex player in chrome.

AAC is not used on DVD nor on Bluray. Multichannel-AAC is not well supported by many devices. I recommend you to keep the sound in the format which is used on disc.
Maybe add an additional stereo AAC track for compatibility reasons.

That being said, I have no issue playing 5.1 AAC audio in the web app.
Is your sound interface set to 5.1 channels in Windows?
Have you compared with the hosted web app https://app.plex.tv ?

I can play the ripped movies back in Windows media player so i’m not sure where i would look for 5.1 aac settings in windows. I have a bose sound system plugged into the computer thru usb interface and software. What is latest web interface for PLEX? I just updated the server the other day.

I was not asking for 5.1 aac settings in windows, but just about the general configuration of the sound interface.

The latest version of Plex web is loaded from the URL I gave you above.

Well working nights and not getting much sleep makes for a slow thinking person in the morning. still working on my first cup of coffee. I wasn’t sure if that was url or what. I clicked on it and it worked great. Now did it actually download the software or will i need to save the url and open the web interface that way everytime? I normally just click on the plex server box in my tray to start the web.

No, it only loads the web app into your browser, until you close it.
I recommend you to make a bookmark.
You can also put a shortcut on your desktop, e.g. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" https://app.plex.tv

The “Open Plex” menu item in the Plex task tray item is intended for initial setup and configuration of a new server. It is called the ‘local’ version of Plex Web. It is usually a few version numbers behind.

Is that ever updated along with the server? I try and keep the plex server close to current. I’ve been playing with mainframes for 40+ years and if you’ve heard the term bleeding edge. I prefer to let others bleed and find the problems. I’ll for now make a book mark and try to remember to invoke that.

Yes, it is updated from time to time with new server versions, but it will be almost always “behind” the ‘hosted’ web app.

Thank you very much Otto. Have a good day. It’s time for more coffee.
