No 5.1 audio plex web

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

What am i missing. I ripped blu rays with all the audio selected. When it plays through vlc i have all channels. Through plex web, i get stereo only even though it says its 5.1

There are not many web browsers which support surround sound codecs. The Plex web app can only support what the web browser can.

Consider using the “Plex for Windows/Mac/Linux” app instead.

Or consider transcoding to AAC 5.1 if you want surround through a browser. You’d typically only want surround via a streaming device though.

It’s now working, thank you very much. The audio is now working. But now I can’t get it above 720 before. It starts to buffer on the video, lol.

Which app are you using?
Is Plex Media Server transcoding?
Does your Plex Media Server support hardware-accelerated transcoding?

Newest version of server on the main computer(server) and the latest plex for windows app on the laptop feeding the AVR and projector. The two are connnected via ethernet though a gig switch. The hardest thing to find is the proper settings for each machine so that there is no need for transcoding and just let it play. If i open up on my phone, no issues, it only seems to be through the windows app on the laptop. If i use the web interface on the laptop, no play back issues for video, but i lose the 5.1 audio.

Do you have the Windows app set to Original/Maximum quality?

I do, yes. None of the files would be more than 1080p though. Sadly i have no 4k equipment

I also checked through VLC and they all play flawlessly so i dont think its a hardware issue

The Plex player is applying additional filters and quality enhancements by default. This might be too taxing for an older or smaller notebook.

You might want to go into Settings - Plex for Windows - Player and play with “Use Hardware Decoding” and the “Video Playback Quality” selector.
