Can we have an option to use the server in the LAN when no intetnet service?
Plex used to allow you to discover a server via IP address, now it just works with internet.
My internet was down and I wasnt able to watch movies or play music because the app cant discover the network and if you access the web portal it wont work because the server is not available because wants to authenticate with internet.
Seems plex is doing the possible for a ■■■■■■ app and asking us to move to jellyfin
The only Plex app that I’ve found to still work without authorization is the Apple TV app. Probably, because it has not been updated yet like the iOS, android, and Roku. I’ve not been able to find a workaround yet. Adding your LAN IP/netmask to the list of IPs that can connect without authorization doesn’t appear to work with the new Plex apps.
Roku devices tend to stay authorized during internet outages - they cache for quite some time.
I wouldn’t rely on device specific answers though and stick to setting up offline access or some folks setup Jellyfin and/or DLNA as backup (depending on your needs).
When I wanted to build a media server for my airplane passengers I ran into this issue while jellyfin worked offline and even allowed me to update movies metadata offline (disconnecting the usb drive and updating at home).
Plex turned into a POS (I wasted my money on it) and now I will officialy start the migration to jellyfin
