Many years ago, I configured my Plex server to work during Internet outages so it would bypass the login process with the cloud. Last night for the first time in a long time, I lost my internet access but this time I was I was unable to access my media library. I use my Roku device to access my Plex Media library stored on my Synology Nas to view on my TV.
Based on what someone wrote within Reddit, it appears that Plex has disabled that feature. If that is true, why the f*** would they do that? I paid for a license so I’m not using the free version. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
Yeah they force all traffic through their web servers for no real reason so this isn’t possible.
Sometimes you won’t be able to access your server when you do have internet, and obviously one day they will turn your server off entirely.
It’s one of the biggest problems with Plex as it exists right now because they’re only interested in embedding themselves in our infrastructure with DRM and they have no interest in fixing actual problems like pulling the wrong metadata for shows or fixing all the movies that don’t have posters.
I haven’t lost Internet access for a while now, so this info is a few months old now (earlier this year IIRC) so I’m not sure if it still works this way, but when I lost Internet I was frustrated that Plex sat there spinning and spinning trying to load the home screen and not letting me get to my own content like I could before. I finally figured out that if I waited long enough for the spinning to stop and the error message to show up, I could then navigate up (this was before they moved it back to the left side) to my libraries and play my content. Really stupid programming that they would make you wait all that time and then display a meaningless/unhelpful error message and still not tell you how to get to your content, instead of just detecting the absence of an Internet connection and immediately routing you to your own content, but at least it was still possible (at that point anyway) to play your content when your Internet was down.
