Cox Cable is my service provider. When they have an outage I can’t access Plex on my TV (via Roku). The message I get when I try to open Plex on my TV is : Server not found.
I installed RarFlix (a third party mod of Plex) and it does not have this issue. So that’s a good work around for me. I’d still love to fix the issue with Plex.
Can anyone help with this? It’s crazy that I can’t use PLEX when the cable goes out. That’s when I need it the most!
A) Am I having an issue or is this just the way PLEX works?
B) Why would PLEX not be designed to work when the cable is out?
C) Is there a solution?
D) Can you explain the solution in nontechnical language?
Thanks in advance.
I’m really surprised this is an issue at all.
Just last night my internet went out for several hours. During that time I was able to use Plex without problems.
Be sure that you have Secure Connections on your server set no tighter than “Preferred.” Actually is you do not have remote users you can disable both remote access and secure connections.
On your Roku set to allow insecure connections to either always or on local network.
Once you get things set that way Plex should work even when the internet goes out.
BTW: I thought that “home” features prevented Plex usage when the internet was out but I had forgotten that I had been doing some testing and had set up a “home” user and therefore had “home” turned on but when my internet went out everything kept working fine.
Or if you want to keep secure connections go to
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200430283-Network
And look under
“List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”
