Access usb drive on tablet

Server Version#: 1.29.1.6316
Player Version#: 8.30.0.30944 (8c547757)

I have plex server installed on synology. I also use plex player on galaxy tab s6. I’m interested in what needs to be set in order to be able to watch a video with Plex that is stored on a USB drive connected to the Tab S6? If I select the more/on this device option, only camera roll and downloads and open video file are available. I don’t have an option to select a usb drive.

Plex on your tablet is a Plex client. Which means its primary function is to play media which are streamed from a Plex Media server.

Yes, but I can play files from internal storage, I’d also like to play files from usb drive!

Is there a solution for this issue ?

Came to ask the same thing. Samsung Tab S8. Plex can see the built-in microSD card, but does not see a USB-C flash drive to find media to play.

The Android “Files” app sees the drive as “USB-C”. It seems Plex client has not been told how to look at ALL drives available on an Android tablet.

Can Plex update the app so the client can see all external media and play files from them?

Otto, ever heard of being OFFLINE? The Plex client has the ability to play media files on drives connected to the client device just for when you are OFFLINE from your Plex server (while traveling, for instance).

Plex will only play local files which were put there by its own “Download” feature.

Playing media files using the Plex app from any random local storage doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. Because you won’t have any of the metadata from your server, nor the connection to your watchlist or any other Plex features. The mobile Plex app won’t be able to communicate back to the server, for instance to inform it that you played movie “X”. Simply because it doesn’t have any information about which movie is actually inside of file “Y”.
All that “matching” business is done by the Plex server, which is not there on your mobile device.

There are already dozens of media player apps which you can use to play local files. Even free ones.
Putting additional developer effort into the Plex app to do the same will gain zero benefit.
