Accessible outside your network comes & goes

Server Version#:1.20.1.3252
Player Version#:plex iphone app and sony tv app

Hello,

my Plex server, running on Qnap says it is Fully Accessible outside your network, but when I try playing movies streaming to my TV 1 Sony TV with built-in PLEX app or to my TV 2 office TV with Google Chromecast the iPhone app says I do not have a direct connection

if i use the TV 1 sony TV with built-in PLEX app, the built-in Plex app also says no direct connection available

on my home wifi network
iphone plex app
TV 1 is sony TV with built-in PLEX app, hard wired to ethernet
TV 2 has google Chromecast connected with home wifi

my qnap Plex server says
Fully accessible outside your network
Manually specified public port 32400
qnap server has static IP 192.168.1.100

I have my UniFi Security Gateway set to allow port forwarding

  1. anywhere / port 32400 / forward ip: 192.168.1.100 / forward port 32400 / protocol TCP
  2. Upnp is enabled
  3. USG is up-do-date

my modem is in BRIDGE MODE
consumer modem does not have a static IP address
Motorola cable modem

I’ve tried

  1. deleting the iPhone app and reinstalling.
  2. restarted the qnap NAS
    a. it is also set to restart every night at 3:00 am
  3. power cycled both TV’s
  4. power cycled the google chromecast
  5. deleted the port forwarding rule and recreated the same rule

once in a great while the app and/or the TV will say they are connected to Plex directly, but most of the time they say they do not have a direct Plex connection

On the apps that are not working , change the setting “Allow Fallback to Insecure Connections” to “Always”(This is in General Settings)image

Then on your server in the Network settings change the “Secure Connections” to “Preferred”

See if that helps, I personally use these settings myself. My ISP also doesn’t have static IPs however that being said my IP doesn’t actually change unless I power down the modem and leave it off for quite some time - I’ve had the same IP now for a quite for a while but it does change on me during extended power outages. G’luck

hi,

I updated to plex server version 1.20.2.3402

now REMOTE ACCESS will say
Fully accessible outside your network

for a few minutes or a few seconds and if I click on other settings and come back to
REMOTE ACCESS it will say
Not available outside your network

I’m using MANUALLY SPECIFY PUBLIC PORT 32400

I have that port forwarded on my Router
anywhere / port 32400 / forward ip: 192.168.1.100 / forward port 32400 / protocol TCP

If I UNcheck Manually specify public port
click retry
not available outside your network

IF I then CHECK manually specify public port
click retry
Fully accessible outside your network

but a few seconds or minutes later it will change back to
not available outside your network

( but if I use my cell phone on cell only, I can still access my plex media, so I am still connecting to my Plex Server from outside of my local network )

thank you,

I upgraded to the newest plex server and now my problem has gotten worse ( I posted the details of that in this thread )

thank you
