I am new to the Plex world and just getting ready to build a server that I obtained from work as a media server running Plex. One of the questions I have that I have not been able to find anywhere is, once my server is up and running, will I be able to access Plex on any tv in my house through the satellite set top box that is connected to that tv?
I read somewhere that you can connect a Plex server directly to your main cable box dvr and be able to pull up the Plex content just like you would see Amazon Prime or Hulu etc… If this is true?, is is poosible to also see the content on your satellite tv’s?
My plan is to run a regular server hosting Plex, in a server rack. I will have a hardware firewall and server UPS also hooked up, all free from my job as we just did some upgrades and this equipment was no longer needed.
Is this over kill for a media server, seeing all the hardware was free? I want it to hold a lot of media and to be fast and be able to be accessed on any device anywhere over the internet.
I do not want to get in over my head and make my project more complicated that it needs to be.
