Accidentally build my entire server around the wrong account

Hi, I just found out that my entire plex server and everything runs under my main email, but my secondary email has a plex account too and seems to be the “Home admin” where my main mail is only registered as “managed” user. How do I set my main email as “Home Admin” and remove the secondary (unused) email from my plex without deleting all my data?

However, I don’t know the intricacies of TrueNAS. It might employ some kind of containerization which can make it hard to reach the preferences.xml file. And adds some complications to the subsequently needed re-claiming of the server.

Unfortunately not helpful to me, as I have never used BSD nor TrueNAS.
I can only assume that the concept of “Jails” is some kind of virtual machine or container.

If I’m reading your post correctly, the server is claimed by the wrong account.

You should be able to sign out, placing the server in an unclaimed state, then sign in with the desired account and claim it. See steps below.

You could also edit the preferences.xml file, removing specific entries, to place the server in an unclaimed state, then re-claim using the desired account. See Why am I locked out of Server Settings and how do I get in?

I’m not familiar with running Plex on TrueNAS, and do not know the specifics of claiming a server.

On Linux, you point a browser at the IP address, http://pms_ip_address:32400/web, then login and claim the server.

It should be something similar on TrueNAS. Basically the same steps as when you initially setup the server.


To unclaim server, then re-claim with different account:

  1. Using current, undesired account, go to Settings → Server_Name → General.
    It should say, “server signed in as wrong_e-mail_address”
    Click Sign Out.

  2. Go to Settings → Authorized Devices & sort for Servers
    If your server is listed, delete it (it should de-list when you signed out, this is a sanity check).

  3. Sign out of Plex Web.
    Choose user icon/avatar in upper right corner, then Sign Out.

  4. Sign in with desired Plex account and claim server.
