Switching over plex server to a different account

I have an interesting issue.

My dad started a plex server and I think he created my account with my email. So after a few years of this, I wanted to get my own Plex pass and create my whole own plex server. So I created a new account, but I’m unable to use the Plex Server with it. The issue is that with the account my dad made, I started up my own server to have some files on, but now I can’t have my new sole account take over the server, or at least I don’t know how.

I guess the question is, how do I hand over server access or something like that to another account on the same computer.

Unclaim the server, then re-claim with the desired account.

Unclaim:

  1. Login to server. Go to Settings → Server_Name → General
  2. You’ll see “Server signed in as email_address”
  3. Click Sign Out.
  4. Go to Authorized Devices, https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms.
If server is listed, delete it (X). If not listed, then proceed (it should unlist when you clicked Sign Out, this is just a double check).
  5. Sign out of Plex Web (upper right corner, click on avatar/picture, Sign Out).
  6. Close all web browser windows.

Claim:

  1. If on the server: http://127.0.0.1:32400/web.
If on another system on same network: http://pms_ip_address:32400/web.
  2. Go to Settings → Server_Name → General
  3. Claim the server with desired account.

If the above fails, simply use this: You need to reclaim your server, but don't dare to touch the Windows Registry
