Accidentally disconnected the server. Need to recover all personalized data of music libraries

Server Version#: 1.103.1.238-223cbba6
Player Version#: 4.140.1

I accidentally disconnected the server. Now I’ve restored it, but I’ve lost all the customizations of my music libraries: album covers, artist photos, song ratings, etc. I’m very sorry because it was the work of at least a year. I hope there is a backup of these customizations somewhere. Is it possible to restore them? Can someone help me?

Disconnecting the server does not delete the Plex data folder.

What did you restore, and how?

All these data are in the Plex data folder, on your machine and only there.

Hello OttoKerner, sorry for my late reply and thanks for your help.
I don’t know exactly how I managed to reconnect the server but I had to link all the libraries again. I named them with the same name as before, but the final resul is that I can see all music on Plex but I’ve lost all the customizations (ratings, covers, etc.).
I cannot find the back up data on my Windows PC.
But the files are on a Western Digital My Cloud Home NAS and I suppose the server and the data directory should be located there, though I cannot find it. I only see my music files.
What should I look for and how can I have these informations back on Plex?

Your account shows that you have 2 servers installed.
One on your NAS, and one on your Windows PC.
Although it appears that the one on your PC has only been created recently.

So, the Plex server was and is located on your NAS. Did you replace this device at some point in the past? Its device identifier changed, so I am assuming that you either replaced it due to repair/defect or cleaned its storage completely.
Either of the above actions will cause you to lose your plex data, because they are not stored anywhere else than on your server device.

Dear Otto, thanks for your prompt reply.
Yes, the second server on Windows PC is very recent due to me trying other solutions…
The server where I have stored the music files is the one on the WD My Cloud Home NAS.
I absolutely did not replace the device nor I cleaned it.
I’ve always had access to my music files through the file manager even when Plex couldn’t find the server.
I still can see all the files but I cannot locate the Plex data.

Then, I assume all customizations are lost!
That’s a big pity!
I guess I’ll have to rebuild the data all over again.
But this time, how can I assure that I will not loose these data again?
How do the Plex data look like and how will I be able to recover them in case of need?
Many thanks if you can help me with this.
Enrico

I have no experience with WD NAS devices. I can only give you this link: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201539237-backing-up-plex-media-server-data/
It contains yet another link, which is listing the ususal locations on the various server platforms. Whether this loction is still accurate for your WD device, I don’t know. Nor do I know how to gain direct access to it, in order to make a backup copy. On other NAS platforms, you use either some sort of file manager in the NAS user interface, or you enable command line access and do it like on other Linux machines per telnet /SSH terminal command line.

OK, Otto.
Thanks for your help.
I will continue to build up my music archives on my WD My Cloud Home NAS until I have transferred all my music CDs, but I will not be personalizing the meta data on Plex until I find a secure way to back up the PMS data.
Maybe I’ll switch to another server, if necessary, and keep the WD NAS as a backup.

You can do that nonetheless. Just do all your customizations via embedded meta tags and sidecar poster graphics files. Most things can be done this way, with no need to make any edits in the Plex user interface.

That way, all your custom data are stored inside your media files, which you can backup already with a simple file copy operation.
