Saving server settings for libraries

Server Version#:1.27.2.5929
Player Version#:(not sure where to find this) Plex player won’t open on windows, so I run Plex from the web to access my NAS (a TerraMaster F4-421) remotely.

I initially loved Plex when I first got it, but seem to have the same issue over and over. On at least 4 occasions, Plex has lost my server. It takes me hours to organize my library, so every time I have to start from scratch to add the server, I have to rename/regroup/add posters/etc… Is there a way to save the settings once I’ve gotten my libraries organized how I want them so that I don’t have to make all the updates manually if I have to re-install my server on Plex?

The last time I added my server and reorganized my library, it only lasted a couple of weeks. I recently upgraded PMS on my server to the latest version (a major production), and this time at least it seems to have more of the filenames and poster art correct.

Let’s not go down the road of reinstalling media and server, at least for your own peace of mind when you lose connectivity. Plex is designed to be resilient to connections dropping, but sometimes a reinstall can’t be avoided. So Plex has made ways to backup and restore two different things.

  • Overall server settings, login, and the like
  • Scheduled backup of Plex database every 3 days of watched shows, views, titles, etc:

For debugging your issue, we probably need to carefully define a lot of things about your hardware, software, and network setup, what exactly you mean by “Plex has lost my server,” screenshots of error messages and server logs from that time period.
