Accidentally made new account, now entire Shield Server transferred to new, wrong account somehow

Server Version#: Latest on all Windows, Nvidia Shield and Android Devices
Player Version#: Ditto

WHOLE SERVER SWAPPED TO A NEW ACCOUNT SOMEHOW WIHOUT PERMISSION CAN’T FIX.

Wanted to change password after security scare. Logged out all devices. Must have chosen the wrong login option in browser on Windows and ended up making a new account by accident on another email as I wasn’t paying attention. Got a “Welcome to Plex” email. Got to the right log-in screen, changed to my actual Life Pass Plex email and changed password to the same password as the accidental account (probably a mistake, but can’t see why it would cause what happened next).

Go to relog in to Nvidia Shield Pro (main Server/Client), go to Plex.TV/Link in browser to log-in/add code from Shield. OK. Time to set-up on Shield again. Plex Client can tell the Shield Server there exists, I select it as my main server but Plex Client can’t access and says as much. Only the Plex TV sections show up. In Settings, the Server is listed as being off and if I try to turn it on it doesn’t turn on (except it’s not really off see ahead). Can’t access via the Windows web app or Android devices either… Same thing happens. Shield Server is offline/inaccessible.

You know where I can access my entire Server just fine? On a whim signed into the new account on Android client - There it is. All my media right there working fine (for a minute until app cuts out because I haven’t paid for app/pass unlike my other account which is where I want the Server to be!!!). I don’t even know how this is possible. This is a huge checks and balances issue imho and why the link function is a pain. There should be an option for me to physically select an account. I can only guess that the plex.tv/link section, what? Logged me into my new account instead? Now everything is a mess.

Also, if I can access the movies on Android in the new account that I NEVER EVEN SET UP then why not in Windows? If I log into my new account in the web app on Windows I still can’t access the Server/it’s media. It’s the old “Android TV is currently unavailable”.

I have no idea how to fix this without having to reinstall my entire Plex Server on Shield which will take ages and also may not even be guaranteed to work.

P.S. both those emails are logged in as Shield accounts, though I can’t see that’s relevant as the passwords are different and that’s with Google for the accounts, not Plex but I thought I’d mention it because I just don’t know how this could have happened and yes it has, I’m not crazy or made a mistake.

Help? Ideas? Thanks.

UPDATE: I had to just delete the new account and completely remove Plex Server from my Shield delete all data etc and just install and set the server up again. A real pain. Will leave the post up for future readers because this is still something that happened and it shouldn’t have. Thanks.

Just reading up on this… it seems you went with the nuclear option when signing the server out and reclaiming it with the original account should have done the trick.

It appears when you had your “scare” you changed your password and opted to sign-out all devices – this includes the server. Only if your server is signed out (=unclaimed) can you access it with another account of yours as described in your post. What happened next is basics… your server was now linked to your newly created account and therefore no longer accessible to the clients using your original account. There’s also been no new server setup as the server was already in place.

As for how to fix his:

  1. While signed in with the new account… access your server through Plex Web
  2. Go to Settings > [Server Name] > General
  3. Click Sign Out on that settings page
  4. Switch to the new user and access the now unclaimed server through its local IP address (http://[Shield-IP-Address]:32400/web)
  5. Go to Settings > [Server Name] > General
  6. Click Sign In on that settings page to re-claim your server
