It seems like the Google DNS + DNS Rebinding changes can fix casting issues for some people, but that is not the only thing causing chromecast failures unfortunately.
For me, using Google DNS vs Cloudflare, ect does not make any difference. All of the required domains are resolving just fine.
I even checked the client logs and found the specific “[ip].[guid].plex.direct” subdomain that my server is using and confirmed that I can resolve that to the correct LAN IP address (so DNS rebind protection is not the issue in my case either).
I’ve had to downgrade the Plex Android client to a version from ~5 months ago or I can’t cast anything to my main TV. I made a separate post about this back in May and it’s been totally ignored. I think I might have to look into Jellyfin soon, because the minute Plex does something to break the old client version I’m using, the entire Plex platform be basically useless to me.
Hey,
I have had the same issue as well since the release of the “refreshed” version, meaning all versions after 10.26.0.2578.
Checked DNS and I can resolve the claspws.tv domains on my network, no logs at all on plex server so I think it never gets to that point, it just fails connecting to the chromecast.
Casting works fine from the web app and from the old android version 10.26.0.2578.
It has now been over 14 weeks since @MJ_Plex confirmed this issue was filed internally, but there’s been no follow up or visible progress since then. Casting is a core feature that’s been broken since the Android app update in March.
The problem remains fully reproducible, confirmed by multiple users, and rolling back to v9.36.0.37495 appears to restores some functionality, for how much longer though?
@MJ_Plex Can we please PLEASE have an update on this?
it isn’t being ignored but I’m sorry they have not figured out the issue yet. There isn’t anything new to share unfortunately. Thank you to all that provided details of their set ups and such.
Thanks for confirming, @BigWheel. I appreciate the update, even if there’s nothing new to share yet. For me (and clearly for quite a few others here), casting is the feature we use the most and a big reason why we chose Plex in the first place. I really hope this one can get sorted soon.
Huh. I was hoping by the end of this thread there would be something actionable for me, but no dice. Pretty sure it’s not a DNS issue on my end.
I just want reliable casting of media hosted on my local network, with seeking.
I finally decided to try Plex, since Jellyfin/Emby can’t seek while casting, and I was pretty surprised that Plex just doesn’t work at all. Oh well, guess I don’t need to bother tuning Plex now.
