Actor/cast list only populates from foreign dubs

I’ve noticed when browsing anime in Plex, Plex tends to only list the cast from the Japanese dub. I’d like to see the cast from the English dub listed alongside them, or optionally instead of. As someone who only knows English and bad English (okay, I know a couple words in German, Japanese, Latin, and Spanish, but I’m not fluent in any of them by any stretch of the imagination), when offered the choice between a Japanese dub and an English dub, I’ll choose an English dub almost every time. Also, I’ve met several English dub voice actors, and I’ve never met a Japanese dub voice actor, so in addition to watching in my native language, there’s also the connection of, “I’ve met this person and seen them speak at conventions.”

I have nothing against any foreign dubs, and I’m happy they exist, but when I browse my media, it would be a lot cooler if it showed the actual voices behind the characters I’m looking at.

I’m not entirely sure this is “a Plex thing” and I’m aware it might be “a TVDB thing,” but I’d rather not go ask them. Their community is, in my experience, set in its ways about a certain way of doing something, and generally, challenges to that way are frowned upon or worse, especially by new members. If it can’t be helped on the Plex end, I’ll consider it as something that just can’t be helped, and it won’t bother me too much. That said, while TVDB is a solid source, I’m sure there are others. “Behind the Voice Actors” is one, but I’m not sure if they have an open and/or free API, and they’re infamously opposed to LGBTQ+ content (they will not list it). So they are kind of scummy in that regard (I don’t think personal politics should influence a media database).

In the case of Anime, the japanese audio is not a foreign dub.
It is the original dub.

And if Plex has to pick one cast list out of several, I think it should prefer the “original” one. Not least because there are a lot of people who watch their anime in the original dub.
Also Plex doesn’t only cater to people in the english-speaking world, so to simply assume that the english cast would be always the right choice is not correct.

Not to mention the people who consider any dub of anime an atrocity.

First, second, third, fourth, or beyond, it’s still foreign to a non-native speaker.

The semantics are just that, and beside the point. A player should be neutral. Just because one person prefers a certain language, or subtitle language, does not mean everyone will.

I’m just saying it should be a choice if the data is available.

What other people think about what language I watch media in isn’t any concern of mine, since they aren’t paying for my equipment or content. They’re certainly entitled to their own opinions about the content they consume, but when their opinions spill over into what I do, their relevance drops to zero.
