Plex TV Series adds voice actors for a language I don't give a * about

So, the plex tv series decided to add english voice actors for my anime collection, but I don’t care as I wouldn’t watch a show dubbed in english.
Doesn’t it respect the “metadata language” setting ?

Anime has always been tricky to catalog… and particularly if you’re going to inflect it with:

… and thus the exhausting “sub vs dub” proponents on both sides who may never be happy. It’s like the old joke about vegans… how do you know an anime fan watches subs? I get to tell that joke because I helped title Fist of the North Star VHS tapes back in the late 80s.

My anime TV series have the original Japanese voice actors or sometimes both Japanese and English with Japanese typically listed first (though I’m using the new Plex agent which kinda does a mix\match on the cast list from sources).

Can you provide some details with an example show? Are you only getting the English voice actors or a mix like me? Also, what language settings do you have for your account and for the library?

Do you have a source listing for cast that lines up with what you expect since it’ll be determined by how sources handle it (TMDB, TVDB, IMDB, etc)?

What do you mean by “plex tv series decided” … did you change agents or do a rescan or metadata refresh?

There are some anime centric tools you could dig into as well. I’ve seen a few floating around that will match to AniDB or MAL instead for example - that’s not a Plex thing itself so you’d have to set it up to work with Plex but I’ve seen other threads mention them. This one looks interesting: GitHub - ZeroQI/Absolute-Series-Scanner: Seasons, absolute mode, Subfolders...

No, you don’t get it.
I’m french. If I ever watch something dubbed, it will be in french, not in english.
Thus, my library settings for metadata is “French”. The problem here is that I think voice actors should be part of this localization setting.

Improvements to the cast list is on the radar, no plans to change it based on the dub language but I suspect that it should show the original voice actors once the improved system is in place.

Something that I think would be neat to have as a feature would be able to detect language from the video files, then on the main series page, show different “Cast” sections for each language. For Instance if a series was in both English and Japanese, it’d show like the example below. Just thought I’d throw in what I’d find to have as a neat feature!

Cast - Japanese
. . . .
Cast - English
. . . .

That would be a neat feature indeed.
