Hi Everyone,

Is there a way to force Plex to refresh the data it users for the Cast of movies?

I want to get Elliot Page’s name updated - IMDB and TMDB both have the correct name, but when I refresh the metadata or unmatch then rematch on movies he’s been in the name hasn’t updated.

I’m wondering if there’s a cache somewhere I need to clear, or if its possible to manually edit the database to change the name.

I googled this a bit and found a lot of requests for being able to edit the cast, but couldn’t find any info on forcing that to refresh from the TMDB API.

It may just be taking a little while to update the info.

There was one movie yesterday which had his old name on it even after refreshing the metadata. The info was correct on TMDB but wasn’t showing up yet in Plex. I tried again this morning and it updated correctly to Elliot.

Yeah, I saw that yesterday too - seems like my movies are now updating, still waiting on TV Shows.

I wish we had more insight into where that metadata comes from, or how long it’s held in a cache on Plex’ end.

I’ll probably see if I can figure out where the data is stored locally and update it that way.

Edit - I updated the meta data for each library and the name eventually updated! Just took at bit

I would try if not already using a good public DNS instead of your ISP given DNS.

Example: 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8

Which Plex scanner are you using Plex Movie or Plex movie Scanner( Legacy)

I find the metadata when you are doing bulk updates is slow, probably a network priority and endpoint api rate control thing.

Also, I find updates showing on TheTVDB website vs what’s fed by the API calls lags by like a week to come across. I have not checked this against others as it is just TheTVDB I am usually fighting with.

If you have a tool to call the API and confirm its coming across there then I would only be concerned with taking more than a day of lag in the Plex interface to update.
