I’m adding missing translations to themoviedb.org for my TV Shows but how do i get Plex to pickup on this changed metadata? I already tried every option in the menu, refresh metadata, deleting and readding the link, empty-ing the trash can, but i keep getting the previous metadata…
It’ll be a day or two before anything you change/add at TMDB / TVDB is available to you. The database people do their thing - then Plex’s Proxy has to update.
It’s not instant gratification - and I usually edit the title with the same stuff I just put on the database - or I wait (and I don’t wait).
Also:
Sometimes Plex gets that metadata (or no metadata) in it’s teeth and doesn’t want to let go (or update). That is when you:
… of course, that won’t do a thing if the info isn’t yet available… and I will fully admit that it’s a mystery you’ll not have the answer to until Plex can finally see the changes - and that ‘usually’ takes a day or two… we hope.
The moral of this story and exercise is that when you add to the online databases, you are doing it out of the love you have for the media and for others or ‘the future you’. There now… doesn’t that make you feel better?
I can also confirm this. I’ve added screen shots for a TV show that didn’t have any, and it took around 3 days to appear in Plex even when I tried to manually update metadata.
You may NEVER see any changes, or ever get a natural, first time match. If your files are out of whack, or if you’re using MP4.M4V files with Local Media Assets in the top agent slot(s)… nothing good will ever happen - without a Fix Match.
We will assume, for now, your file naming and structuring and Local Media Assets are perfectly aligned waiting for the database update (I don’t wait - I edit).
Thanks for your answer and information but is it possible that if i add a translation to a tv-show where there was no previous translation for my language, that i can see that change instant in plex and when i edit an existing translation that change takes a couple of day’s to show up in plex? Because i have mostly been adding new translations and those i see instantly in plex after i fix the match to my language. It’s just now when i’ve been editing things that i don’t seem to find a way to see those changes instantly, but i will be patient and wait a couple of day’s and follow up
Well, check your names and structuring carefully.
If you feel confident they are correct and good - try Fix Match.
If nothing changes wait 24 hours try it again. Nothing?
Put on your Plex Dancing shoes my friend…
Still Nothing?
Come back here and start yelling - it won’t help, but you’ll feel better…
(lol - JK)
Naa. if that happens someone will figure out something else to check/try.
Like your Language Settings, for instance. These can be tricky and I would think they’d be even trickier if your dealing with different languages at the database.
I’ll be of no use in that regard. I speak only two languages:
English
Redneck English
… at one time - not that long ago - I used to get the text metadata instantly, but had to wait on the poster for a day or two. Well, somebody must have found out and ‘fixed it’ 'cause now everything is delayed.
I was editing the local poster back then, so now I’m just editing everything. It’s not like it’s a huge additional inconvenience.
What ratings?
I can’t say I’ve ever noticed one, except to maybe think there could be something else more useful in that spot, but I have noticed the Movie Reviews that are like a huge hazard to navigation and can’t be avoided!
Too bad they aren’t in the metadata, to be edited out…
You might have to clear your server’s local agent cache, for changed metadata to appear.
(But you still will have to wait until your changes have arrived in Plex’s proxy, so it is indeed best to wait at least 24 hours.)
This! Thanks for the answer, i cleared the cache for themoviedb, restarted the server, reloaded the metadata for the series where i changed the translation and BAM! The changes i made where visible
Edit: Just to be checking i changed something in themoviedb and did the same thing as before (cleared cache, restarted server, reloaded metadata) and now it didn’t pick up the change so i guess the 24 hours wait is also necessary
