I may be in the minority here, but if there were a subscription to watch Plex Movies & TV without ads I would get it in a heartbeat. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime, so it’s not just about access to ad-free content. I want to be able to go to one app and watch from the huge catalog that is available.
I also get that licensing this content for sharing with other users could be very tricky and I’m not expecting that will happen.
From the responses of many other users in regard to Plex’s VOD and how many only use Plex for curating their personal library, I get that this probably won’t take any development priority. I just wanted to give my two cents (and hopefully more).
The Content Providers call ALL the shots.
The Content Providers want that advertising in front of eyeballs ('cause they get paid every time they show - Ka-Ching).
The More - The Better.
I think it could under the right circumstances.
Plex could do both, argument is that it would add more users, meaning more money for the studios and Plex.
But I do wish Plex would rethink how this is projected to the Public…
It’s very confusing to explain to my users the difference between my service (bad word could not think of a better one) and what Plex VOD service is.
Wish there were two different front ends for access.
One for Plex’s services and one for the private video collections (ie me).
