"Movies & TV On Plex" is NOT "Free"

I tried the Movies…On Plex tonight. I watched five sets of ads break into the hour long movie. I won’t do that again. If PLEX comes up with a subscription that eliminates the ads I’ll reconsider. Watching stupidity break into the world of a movie (where there was no break intended) and waiting even a few seconds while it buffers is not a price I’m willing to pay. Especially when I can see many of those titles elsewhere without a commercial break. Having to endure five sets of commercials for an hour long movie that was labeled as FREE made me angry actually. Shame on PLEX.

I wasn’t looking for a snarky response. But I’m sure you serve someone. Maybe I was a little naive, but I do pay for the Pass and, as I stated, I would be interested in paying for the same offering sans ads. Netflix and Amazon movies are paid not free.

Please direct your attention to twitter or Facebook. Isn’t that where trolls live?

It is rarely the case, but I agree here with chenks.

Free only means “without additional cost”. You expected it also to be “ad-free”, which nobody said it was. Free-TV, at least where I live, is also always ad-supported.

Additionally, this announcement clearly states that there are ads:

In the end you were just (naively) expecting something else, which is your “fault” and not Plexes. This happens, but this is no reason to complain about in the forums.

“There is no such thing as a free lunch”.

I’ll join that chorus, I rarely agree with chenks but he’s right for once. Wilikoki can you reframe from spreading untruths.

Don’t like VOD, turn it off, simple resolution.

Maybe right a couple times

I’m also in the chorus. I switched it off quite quickly and had forgotten about it.

However, 5 ad breaks per hour (a break every 12 minutes) does seem quite a lot. I would have expected 2 or maybe 3 max and for them to be positioned to natural break points in the dialogue/scene.

It maybe annoying with ads untimely but it’s less than 10 seconds to turn it off. Find a friend to share with and all is rosy.

Most of us (99.9%) are here because we use PLEX to manage our personal media collections.

No one asked PLEX to provide “free” movies.

If you’re looking for a streaming service, then maybe you should look to netflix or amazon.

-Some- of you saw the point of my original post. As a Pass user, I was not pleased with Plex’s use of the word “Free” as it applies to Movies & TV On Plex (M&T). I did state I was willing to pay for the titles listed.
Some of you focused on semantics.
As I interact with Plex, it gives me 90% of what I want for the media I have. I’ve left my opinion. If Plex (the business) offers another tier to eliminate commercial breaks from M&T I’ll consider going to the next level. I’m too busy to focus on more.
The Plex forum certainly seems healthy enough. I leave the more to you.

It’s kinda funny, but ‘Ad-Supported’ anything, is probably responsible for generating more media theft than ANYTHING else.

Too Many
Too Painful
Too Loud
and
Too Easy to get somewhere else.

Big Media’s Big Plan may have backfired. I have no internal logistics and rely heavily on the Wilid Ass Guess.

Sorry to hear if there was confusion. Free was meant to indicate that no additional money would be required to access these videos. We did state that a Plex Pass does not remove these ads.

Then it wouldn’t be free. :grinning:

Plex may consider offering a subscription based system for these in the future, but for now, it will cost you a little time.

I didn’t particularly care for your snarky, arrogant tone. Any other questions?

I think people are just a little confused by your hostility. You’re coming off like you just signed up to get the “free” movies and are mad that you found ads. Did you just get Plex or have you had it awhile?

We’re just confused because most people that use Plex, I am pretty sure, think this new ad supported movies thing is stupid. We’ve been using the software for years for its intended purpose and then this drops. At worst it confuses our users on our servers who are less tech savvy because these movies show up in search and they don’t realize it’s not content from our server and wonder why they get ads.

So here you come along, someone who actually seems to want these, but you are mad they have ads. I don’t know any service that offers up movies or tv for free without ads.

Maybe you’re exactly the kind of person Plex wants since you seem to want to give them money to watch ad free. If you are ready to pay money to remove ads, then why aren’t you just subscribing to a real streaming service like Netflix or Prime that actually has large catalogue of titles and original content?

No one is trying to shill for Plex like you suggested in your first reply. No one is trying to troll you. I think we’re just a bit perplexed is all. No pun intended.
